... pair of Astros and they are by far much better than Turtle Beach quality wise

... pair of Astros and they are by far much better than Turtle Beach quality wise
These were my first pair of Astros and they are by far much better than Turtle Beach quality wise. That being said, there is nothing wrong with Turtle Beach headsets but these seem so much more sturdy and the mix amp is a lot nicer and user friendly than most TB voice/volume controls. The only thing I don't like about these is that there is virtually no voice monitoring. That is where TB does it right, I like being able to hear myself when I talk but it wasn't a deal breaker. Overall this is a very nice headset, I also use them as headphones around the house when I am not using them on xbox. *****Update****** 5/16/2017 These are still going strong almost a year later. You get use to not having a voice monitor which is why it wasn't a big deal. The big difference between these and the Turtle Beach is that the volume controls on the turtle beach wear out way to fast, making it hard to get the chat and game volume mixed right. But the Astro A40s really are a great headset and investment if you take care of them.

After buying my son 3 other sets of headphones from other companies for far less money that last only a few months each, I decided to spend some dollars and end the headaches. He loves these and the sound blows away the others. Expensive yes, but I have no time to deal with stuff the breaks so this was a good purchase for me. They're sturdy, sound great and very comfortable. Put a crowbar in your wallet , spend a little extra money and get one of the best headphones out there for XBox. In the long run it's worth it.

First off, this headset is really nice. Confortable ear pads, nice mic (I added a pop cover to combat the breathing sound because the mic is really sensitive).

Pros: you can swap the mic to either side, Comfortable ear pads, nice cables, good mic and audio quality. The amp is nice and is ready easy to mix the audio.

Cons: If you have a head any bigger than a size 7 1/2 this thing is probably going to be to small. My head is small to average size and its barely big enough for my head when the headset is extended all the way. Another thing that I don't like is that the audio jack on the headset is towards the back of the left side and hits my shoulder when I lean back or turn my head to the left. While the amp is really nice, if I am in a chat I have to mix audio as far to the chat side as possible or it's not loud enough. Also the amp could stand to have a replaceable cable.

In all its a good headset. If its on sale, buy it. Otherwise Its not really worth the price. You might as well just get some turtle beaches for half the price.

These worked for about a month. everything was great and now the piece won’t go into my controller.

Decided to buy these after having my first set of Astros for two years, saw them on amazon and couldn't beat the price. Overall, they're a wonderful headset great sound quality and comfortable(When they are working that is.) Although after having mine for a month and a half the mic piece stopped working which is really disappointing. Only a month and half which is crazy when I had my last pair for two whole years. I noticed when I first got them they would make static noises and crackle when I turned them on, but I wasn't too concerned about it. Although now I should've realized I would've had this problem. Very upset I payed $200 for a defective product. Wouldn't recommend.

First off let me just say, some of the issues I had are my own fault in terms of lack of research. The other issues are of the actual headphones.

      PROS
      - sound quality is decent. Not incredible but above average compared to similar models from other manufactures.
      - comfort
      - ease of use. The ability to plug them in and have them fire up automatically is fantastic.
      - The mic is flawless. Great sound quality and friends were able to hear me perfectly. My old pair of Tritton AX Pros had me yelling into the mic all the time.
      - the M80 amp is not bad (see the cons). The ability to adjust all the settings without even looking down at the controller was great.

      CONS
      - The M80 amp. The amount of crackle and pop that it produced was inexcusable. I tried it on 3 controllers and still got the same results. The pop was so bad it would hit my ears like a jack hammer, causing you to rip off the headset and wait for it to stop.

      - Lack of 7.1 surround. This is my fault. I should have done the research and not assumed Astros staple product line, the A40 would have at least had 5.1 or 7.1 surround. If you want to convert them to 7.1 be ready to spend $130 on the mix amp. You'll be north of $330 when you're said and done. Also throw in another $25 for the Xbox adapter since the M80 is worthless.
      - The 3 preset audio modes. I couldn't find a happy medium between "Pro" and "Astro". One was more sharp but not a lot of bass. The other was dull and moderate bass. For them not being a "powered" speaker I guess that is to be expected.

Case In point. I returned them after a solid week of use. They aren't bad if you don't care about the immersion 7.1 surround brings and the crackle and pop. I bought the A50s instead. The sound quality (different drivers than the A40), the 7.1 surround, the mic (while not detachable, who cares) quality is great, is a much better deal.

If I had to describe this headset, I would say it is heaven to the ears. I wear glasses which have been smashed against my head with previous headsets. The cushions are so soft and do not do this, and it is also adjustable for those with high up ears. (also me..) Quality was awesome, never heard anything better. The amp is really nice for controlling both gaming audio and chat audio at the same time. Has to be one of my favorite features. It is worth investing in!

Only problem I had was when I have poor internet connection it makes sharp squeaks every now and then. It also sometimes does not pick up audio and you have to restart the xbox or unplug it from the controller.

      This headset is absolutely brilliant!
The padding for the inside of the ears is unbelievably soft and I can wear the headset for many hours without my ears hurting at all.
Also, the mic is extremely clear and I have even had comments from my friends that since I have gotten this headset they could hear me more clearly.
Also, an aesthetically pleasing addition is that when you mute yourself, the red light slowly fades in and out.
To turn your game and chat volume up there is a wheel you can turn and it makes it very easy to go from high to low volumes quickly.
Overall this is a brilliant headset and you get your money’s worth
