This fun mermaid tail was given as a Christmas gift last year to my then 9 year old daughter. I have to say she wore and played with this item more than any others but she is a mermaid fanatic so I knew it would be a perfect gift for her. She wore it in the bathtub until weather permitted to wear in a wading pool in our yard. She also wore at a hotel pool once but I think it would not be permitted in a public pool...not sure as we never tried it.
The quality of the fabric is just as a swimsuit fabric.
It washes well in the machine on gentle after the plastic fin is removed. It has held up well and retains it's shape.
There are other brands that are more realistic looking but for the price, this is a good value. Reminder, though, this item should be worn with adult supervision and states clearly the child must wear a life jacket as the feet and legs are restrained!

Ordered this for our daughters 9th birthday. She and all of her friends watch that H2O mermaid series and she asked for a mermaid tail that she could actually swim in. Found this on Amazon and the price is awesome! She hasn't been able to swim in it yet as it is December in Nebraska but we have a pool so I will update this summer on how well it holds up. My only word of advice is that in the measurements it says the length is the most important part to get right. My 9 year old is very tall for her age and between a size 10 & 12. I ordered the x large based on the measurements listed but it seems much longer. Fortunately I have a sewing machine and I know how to use it so I will just alter it in the summer when she goes to actually use it. It fits her everywhere until it gets to her waist and then it's too long and too loose. I'll have to take it in. But as far as she is concerned, she screamed when she opened it and wears it just hanging around the house. I have to actually tell her to take it off or she would wear it all day. I feel like I should order one more for a friend when she has them over. Two mermaids are way more fun than one!!

These run big. We do roll down the tops for my daughters. They have been the envy of the pools and let the girls take turns. Even wear them in the bath tun. They take a while to dry. But the most bothersome thing about this is for the amount of money spent, they have very thin fabric and it snags easily and forms holes.

I contacted the company about it and they said I could order a replacement? It snagged just a month after using it. These are made for little girls and should have some endurance behind them. We are gentle with them and dont let them sit on the concrete with them but, even with use in a wading pool a few times a week, we have holes.

We have put clear nail polish around the hole and it kept it from spreading just for a few days so ended up singing the fabric to burn it and that has worked. But, again, it was disappointing to pay $50 and have holes a few weeks later.
