Following the success of our Data Block USB cables launched in 2009, 1st Gen Data Blocker USB Adaptor released in 2013 and 2nd Gen ‘SmartCharge’ Data Blocker released in 2015, we've now launched our 3rd Gen range of models. Many alternatives claim to be 3rd or even 4th gen when they're similar to our 1st or 2nd gen and lacking the feature which truly sets our blocker apart - the fact you can see for yourself that it is physically blocking data.

A basic data blocker will send a fixed charging signal, which may result in slower charging. The PortaPow Data Blocker includes our SmartCharge chip which detects and sends the correct signal for your device, compatible with Apple, Universal or Samsung standards. Visible Security

The two data wires have been physically removed from the USB-A connector. You can easily see this through the unique security window cut into the metal.

Compact Size

Measuring just 43x18x11mm (1.7x0.7x0.4"), its a similar size to a cable's USB connector so won't block neighboring sockets. Uses 25% less plastic than previous models for a lower environmental impact.

Which Data Blocker Do I Need?

Check the end of your cable that plugs into a charger (not the end which plugs into your device!) and match it to the image on the left, Most public chargers use a USB-A shape socket, so if your cable is also USB-A then you need our USB-A to A data blocker.

But if your cable is USB-C and you want to charge from a USB-A shape socket, then you need to also convert the shape to charge from public sockets. Our USB-A to C blocker does that.

There are now also many USB-C public chargers, if you'd like to charge from these then you need our USB-C to A blocker or our USB-C to C blocker depending on the shape of your cable's connector. See below for our full range.

    PortaPow Pure Data Blocker worked great. The unit worked as said in the description. It blocked data surge and only allowed power to get through, thus charging. On my 1st order, I got the wrong item The item was also defective. The unit I 1st ordered was returned and refunded. The 2nd unit I ordered was in working order. I tested the unit by inserting my cell phone into my keyboard synthesizer. Normally when doing so, my cellphone would ask what to do when connected to the keyboard. Since the PortaPow was connected it only charged and no data was being received to my cellphone.

    While plugging your charging cable into your own charger block is always the ideal, you can't always do it when away from home. A lot of places I've seen offer a row of USB ports for travelers to use, and those can be dangerous to your data security. This is a A-to-A charger adapter with no wires connecting the data pins, it only transfers power, making it completely safe to plug into stranger's USB ports.

    You have to understand what this does and how it works to get the most benefit out of it.

    (1) Although it connects the POWER lines between the two connectors, it does not connect the DATA lines. Thus if you place this between a charging source and the device you wish to charge, there is no way for the charging source to use the data lines to install malware, etc. on your device. Given that such malware now exists, this seems like something everyone should do when charging devices from any power source, public or private, that they do not completely control: including computers at work or at friends' homes.

    (2) It has an integrated circuit inside that asks the power source to deliver as much current as it can. Without a chip such as this many chargers, including high powered ones, will only deliver a small amount of charging current. In these cases this product will help you get the most out of a charging source that is possible. But this device will NOT make a puny, weak charging source become a powerful one. And if your device already has the appropriate electronics inside then they will already be asking the charging source to deliver as much current as possible, so this product becomes redundant.

    Finally, this product consists of two connectors soldered to a PC board encapsulated in a red, rubbery material. I expect this product to be more rugged and more water resistant than similar products that have hard plastic housings.

    J'ai reçu cette clef, très rapidement mais comme d'hab Amazon utilise des cartons trop grand, la il s'agissait d'une grande enveloppe qui pourrait se retrouver bloqué dans la boite aux lettres. Une clef basique mais qui est censé éviter les passages d'information.

    Je pense en acheter une autre, pour le moment je peux dire que pour la recharge de mon iPad elle fonctionne très bien. Par contre elle ne fonctionne pas pour une clef USB qui est utiliée sur plusieurs ordinateurs ce que je trouve dommage.

    A voir sur un long terme et sur d'autres appareils.

    This is an excellent device for using to power your phone or other USB devices when you are not 100% sure of the integrity of the USB port you are using - be it in Hotels, Trains, Buses Aircraft, AirBnB or wherever. Naturally keep a close watch on charging, not having the data feed it will not charge with fast chargers correctly, and smart charges will not get a full battery signal to shut off the charging power when the battery is full.

    These days you have to take all and any practical steps to avoid the hackers. This little USB dongle sits between your device, it's chager cable and any public USB charge port.

    It blocks out any data transfer, to the only thing you get is the juice to charge and power your phone/tablet/laptop.

    Have seen USB ports on many buses, trains, cafes and airplanes and they all can be a security risk for data cpature or injection.

    The only enhancement would be to make it very bright e.g. flouresent yellow or orange, so that it isn't ever lost or left behind as it's a small little item.
