Spoke to a couple people that had failed the 101 multiple times using just the free guide, so I started looking for other options. I came across this book and after reading the reviews decided to make the purchase. Glad I did! I read through the book once very carefully, a second time skimming parts I felt comfortable with, and full re-reads on parts I did not. Night before and morning of the exam I went over the chapter reviews, and questions, and I passed the exam first go.
Note: This is not a comprehensive introduction to F5 Big-IP! It covers some basics, and high level concepts and module overviews, but not at much length. It's not intended to, as this book is for preparation for the F5 101 Certification Exam.
I did go in with one year of direct network support knowledge, other than that my IT experience has been primarily in systems administration. I feel without any prior experience, that this book would have been sufficient to pass the exam.

This guide is very helpful I use it as my primary source of information and I pass the exam. Just 4 Starts because there are specific information about BIGIP High availability in the exam and HA is not approached as need. and other themes in the exam that need to be reviewed in an specific way. but I think was a very good buy.

My company really need me to pass this exam and this book really helped me prep and used it and some exam test question Indians and it really help me to understand what I was reviewing and help me to understand the questions F5 can be tricky they really want you to understand what and why they’re doing things not just be able to regurgitate information so this book it’s the one the online study guide is not quite enough.

For the F5 101 exam, you need nothing else. With that said, the test is definitely not a test on how to use the F5 in a production environment, but more do you know the OSI model and do you know the F5 products. For what it's worth, I've been exposed to the F5 for about 6months before attempting the 101 exam. Failed the first time. Bought this book, took test again a week later, and passed no issues.

While the book is an easy read and not very lengthy, it's really just basic networking with a little bit of F5 info tossed in. This book is a guide meant to help those looking to certify on F5 products with the first REQUIRED exam. This first exam is NOT for certification as much as it is for weeding out anyone NOT serious about F5 certification. In other words, if you only like taking certification exams for the paper but have no intention on truly supporting these products this exam, essentially, forces you to cough up a couple hundred dollars for the privilege of being able to move on to a REAL CERTIFICATION EXAM after this one. I understand why companies do this but it also hurts those of us who DO want to certify BUT now must spend a few hundred dollars taking an exam on material we already know and most of us support as we speak. I just don't like being forced to spend money on exams that provide no certifications but cost as much as those exams....seems excessive to me. That said, the book is very basic and only meant to prove you have some idea about networking and protocols and some F5 product knowledge (basic)--that's all. You could probably study networking books you already own now and just read some F5 product guides and such which are free. I also don't believe this is an "official guide" per se but could be wrong.

Information clearly explained with solid concepts and reenforced with solid question at the end of each section. Would recommend as resource to just gain basic F5 ADC knowledge or prep for exam 101.

I just passed the exam, this is the only material I used. there are a few things in the exam I didn't see in the book, but it was enough to pass with only a 2 day run through of the book (keep in mind ive been an F5 engineer for 6 years) good product, definitely enough to pass the exam if you have at least some F5 background.

I'm not entirely sure where all of the "great" reviews have come from. This is basically a regurgitation of the free (yes free) study guide that F5 provides for the 101 certification exam. The content is generally the same, and it follows the same outline.

The graphical representations provided of some of the concepts are elementary and look as if they were produced in Visio. The book is riddled with spelling and grammatical errors.

All in all it feels that someone felt they could write a similar book to that of which F5 University already provides and attempt to gain financially.
