While trying to find my old dumbbells, which were apparently lost or given away the last time I moved, I did a lot of comparison shopping. These light weights are by far the best value I've found. If the weights (2 each of 2, 3, and 5 lbs.) are appropriate for your needs, I'd recommend that you go with this set.
There have been complaints from some reviewers that the weights are a little off and not entirely consistent. I haven't weighed mine, but if they are off by a smidgen, I'm not upset by that. There is no right hand/ left hand weight so all will get used more or less equally by each hand.
I use all three different sizes in my workouts. The stronger muscles or when I am fresh call for the 5 pound weights. Weaker muscles, when I am tired at the end of workout, or just feeling like a wimp, calls for the lighter ones.
I like the bright, fresh colors. The coating seems sturdy and is slightly rough so the weights don't get slippery when I get sweaty, er...I mean glowing. The hexagonal ends mean no rolling on the floor. I didn't find any flaws in the coating.
The 2-lb weight is shorter than the 3-lb., and the 3-lb is very slightly shorter than the 5-lb. My hands are relatively small and these lengths work fine for me, so I asked my large-handed husband if the 2-lb weights were too narrow for him to use comfortably. He didn't have a problem with the width. Most big guys won't be using the smallest weights much anyway.
The stand is plastic and goes together with 5 rods, 10 screws, and your own philips head screwdriver. It was quick and easy to put together, even for my hand-tool challenged self. Although it is plastic, it is pretty sturdy and should last a long time as long as it isn't abused. Before I begin my workouts, I take the weights out of the stand so I can very quickly get to the size I want as the exercises change. I really like the stand for storing the weights though.
I will eventually get an 8- or 10-lb weight, but this set fits my needs for now.
