There was and HDMI audio issue with the NUC sending out to the wrong channels. If you run the Intel drive update tool this is fixed. Overall very fast, silent and powerful machine. I love NUC's!

Works well with 4k TV

This little computer is a blast! I installed a 256GB m.2 SSD drive and 16 GB of RAM. I installed Windows 7 pro from a flash stick. I'm very impressed with the performance.

I connected it to one of the HDMI inputs on my Samsung 4k TV and it drives the TV as a big display just fine. I'm not a gamer so I can't tell you how it would perform for that but for working from my easy chair as a break from the office chair it works very well. The picture quality and resolution at 4k on the 55" screen is remarkable. Really I think one could put that big old TV on a desk to use as a monitor.

In addition I have a PLEX media server setup on my network. I prefer the PLEX user interface to the smart TV app's interface. So I've been watching movies through the NUC instead of the TV app.

Brilliant little computing machine

Purchased it last week together with Crucial 16GB Ram Kit and Samsung 850 EVO M.2 SDD to use it as my main computing and entertainment machine at home. I use it to surf the web, watch videos and stream movies and do some work from time to time. This little piece of hardware is exactly what I wanted.

My overall assessment : brilliant little computer!

Pros:
● Super small form factor - smaller than what I was expecting. My first 80MB hard drive was bigger - and probably heavier too!
● Silent and cool operation. You forget that you have an almost fully pledged Core i5 computer in your living room.

Cons
● Midi-HDMI port is a it of a pain.
● Drivers are bulky and takes forever to download and install.

Recommendations:
● Have midi HDMI cable or HDMI-to-Midi converter ready.
● Make sure to include at least the WiFi drivers in the bootable USB so that you can connect to the network and start downloading other drivers

Big Performance in a Small Package!

I had reservations about delving into these small form factor(SFF) PC's. Am I supposed to believe that this thing the size of a large paperweight could possibly run in any way similar to a full sized PC? Even a laptop must surely be more powerful than this puny thing.

I noticed it this week in the sponsored ads section at the bottom of my Amazon screen and thought to myself why not? Just look at, research it, and finally make a solid decision on whether or not to discard the SFF PC as a viable solution to my needs. I did so and came find out that these little boxes that you can hold in your hand are well worth their money.

Consider what some new full sized PCs or laptops cost these days. You could put this unit together with a 23" monitor, wireless keyboard and mouse on Amazon for about $750 with the components I have listed in the next paragraph. This is a full fledged computer. I don't see where anything was skimped on. The unit itself is made from aluminum, steel, and a glossy black plastic top. It looks rather unassuming inside a TV cabinet.

I equipped mine with 16GB of Kingston Hyper Fury X memory, a Samsung 850 EVO 250GB M.2 drive, & an Anker 4-port USB 3.0 Hub. It's currently running Windows 7 Professional as well. It has run every game I've tried off my steam library with its INTEGRATED GRAPHICS. It's true! I know, I'm shocked too! I've played Rocksmith 2014, Mortal Kombat Komplete, Lego Star Wars, GTA: Vice City, Counterstrike, Bioshock 2 and on and on. That is on a 42" Hitachi TV. If it will run games it will do whatever I need in my business environment.

Getting down to what you will need if you choose to buy this unit. You will need memory, an M.2 drive, an operating system, a mini-HDMI to regular HDMI cable. Thank goodness my local shop had one, and they only had one. Indicating there may be limited availability in some areas. There is also a DisplayPort port I chose not to use. Also, very important, you need another computer and a thumb drive to download and transfer all the drivers to it. There are quite a few drivers because it has so many features.

All in all I am very impressed with this unit and I will probably implement them in my business in the next 5-6 years as new upgrades to old hardware.

the i3 NUC was perfect but I thought to myself

I have a home server that I use for plex and minecraft. I needed to run a file server, a mini nas, and a variety of scripts and other tools. I didn't want another tower taking up space so I've been looking into mini pc's. Since file servers and scripts don't need a lot of processing power, the i3 NUC was perfect but I thought to myself, I may expand my uses on it so I got the i5 version instead, Along with it I bought the crucial 8gb ddr3 ram and a samsung 850 m.2 80mm ssd. It was VERY easy to install. You remove the 4 screws on the bottom, remove the plate, remove the ssd screw, install the ssd, screw it into place, plug in the ram and screw it back. That's it. There is also a sata port but I'm not sure what it can be used for.

After installation of windows, this thing is BLAZING. Boots up VERY quickly and is very quiet. All my server software works great without any issue.
