Watch the Video Tutorials before unboxing
I got this for my grand daughter and it arrived today. On unboxing it I was surprised that a 150 dollar gadget does not have a User Manual or a Quick Start Guide. How do you guys expect us to know what to do with the Dash Robot and how to use it. Can the vendor please clarify how should I go about using this Robot. Or am I missing something. I am veteran retired software product manager and if I cannot figure out how to use it how do you expect a normal non tech person to use it. Will appreciate if someone contacts me from the vendor side immediately.Update: Customer Support from Wonder Workshop reached out to me promptly and explained how I should use and set up the Dash Robot. I was also able to find and watch their well made Video Tutorials 1 to 4 on You Tube that works well for first time users to understand how to unbox, set up and use Dash. Wish they had published links to these Tutorials on the box so it would have been simple for me to set it up for first time use. Thanks anyway, the Dash Robot is working great as a marvellous toy gadget providing for some unending excitement of creative fun for both me and my granddaughter 5 years old. We have been having some real good fun learning times with it.

(Bought this for a 5 year old) Absolutely OUTSTANDING product. As both a creative lead and tech developer, my personal standards for these types of devices is quite high and this little thing has not only met every expectation and promise, but exceeded them. In a world flooded with mediocre (or outright horrible) iterations of educational scientific / tech / STEM toys, it is incredibly satisfying to land on a product so well designed and constructed in every aspect of its envelope. MAJOR props to the teams behind the Dash. I cannot recommend it enough, both my 5 year old and myself find the device challenging and fun to use; a very difficult thing to accomplish.

    PROS:
    - Slick product design and very solid / sturdy construction.
    - Powerful, smooth and responsive motors, will not get stuck on simple objects in its path and can truck over changes in terrain such (rugs clothing) with little effort. It can also avoid obstacles. Motors have a very smooth motion.
    - Great battery life, and quick charging. I have not tested the full discharge, but you can easily get over an hour's worth of play-time out a partial charge (probably more).
    - Nearly infinite configurability. I am simply blown away by the number of pre-defined nodes you can pull up and program into the system, as well as the simplicity of adding your own. the result is a ridiculously vast ability to configure different programs and interactions.
    - FANTASTIC companion application, BRILLIANT UX/UI. I cannot overstate how incredibly well designed and implemented the robot and application are. The application It is one probably the best I have ever seen for a toy like this and easily the one thing that sets this above the rest. It is intuitive, responsive, and the education / tutoring progression section is phenomenal. My child has a blast going through the progression and enjoys the feel of the presentation. It does an excellent job of conveying basic and advanced principles and getting the user to not only execute those principles, but QA them.

    SUPER PRO
    - NO account sign up. NO user info. NO data tracking. In a world where every damned thing wants to siphon personal info through a sign up, subscription to a news letter, liking of a Facebook post, submission of a credit check and donation blood... for the honor of using it, this device has NONE of that nonsense. THANK YOU DASH!

    SUPER DUPER PRO
    - Price. I have seen a plethora of far inferior toys for double the cost (or more). This thing is a no-brainer at this price, especially when compared to the garbage out there.

    CON / ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT
    - I had to struggle with a CON, so this really more of an improvement request. A better way to export / view the actual code which the application is running, so the user can see a comparison between the node layout and the code used to execute the commend. This is minor though, as the current structure does an EXCELLENT job of introducing programing concepts, workflows and troubleshooting.

Just get it. You will not at all be disappointed.

This amazing little robot and his associated apps make him extremely versatile and allow my children to be as creative as they want in programming behaviors and building attachments. The beauty of it is that it can grow with the boys. There are other attachments and even a little one-eyed Dot. The possibilities for expansion and creativity are endless and will last years. This is screen time I really don’t mind because it has proven fun and educational for our whole family – even the cats and dog. I highly recommend this robot for kids who aren’t yet motivated to program or code. The recommended minimum age is 8 – and my eight-year-old adores it – but my delight with this little robot should prove that fun and learning simply don’t have an age limit. Get one for your child or just for yourself – its a kick! The beauty of this experience was as soon as Dash came out of the box, my sons were engaged and exploring every one of his features. In less than an hour, they were using one of Dash’s apps to start coding behaviors. I’ve been trying to get my kids engaged in coding for years but this little robot did it in his first hour with them. We didn’t have to read books or go to a Spring Break Camp to learn how to use Dash. The apps were easy to use, encouraged curiosity and experimentation and made coding instantly rewarding and fun.

Dash has been a wonderful toy and I love his durable plastic. The apps were fun and educational. But he is malfunctioning after not quite a year of use. We are out of our warranty period because I got him a few months before we gave him as a gift. I'm so disappointed. He won't turn off until he dies, and he and won't hold a charge any more. While he charges he does weird, static noises and lights, but you can't play with him any more because he dies as soon as you unplug. Reading other reviews, I see that this is now a common complaint. I really hoped this toy would have lasted longer! Does anyone know of a fix for this issue? I have searched online but haven't found a solution that worked.
**Edited to add: I am changing to 5 stars because Wonder Workshop has been a dream to work with. I sent in an email and they sent me a new Dash within 2 days, even though I'm technically out of the warranty period! I am returning our malfunctioning one. I am so glad and grateful they take such good care of their customers.

We bought Dash for our son to expose him to robotics and programming. The Robot looks great and was well packaged. The software updated on our ipad and connected to Dash without a problem. For a day the robot worked well and our kids enjoyed it but the next day there was a problem. Dash would not roll forward and wouldn't do some commands. We tried different things and noticed that when lifted up his one wheel was not spinning. I searched on line, saw others with this issue and decided to call WW to replace Dash. I called on monday 1/4 and found out today when following up that the replacement still has not shipped. It should ship Monday 1/11. Then take 3-5 business days to arrive. I'm giving this product a low review because while it's a great concept the robot shouldn't break after a day of rolling on a hardwood floor and it shouldn't take two weeks to cross ship a replacement.

    UPDATE:
We received the new DASH and sent back the old one. The new one is working great after a few play sessions. The kids are having great fun with it and the Apps continue to work well. Customer service was good and easily reached. They did make a mistake on the return but that didn't impact the process just notifications. Because of our current experience with DASH, the apps and the company's service I've increased my review to 4 stars.

Get this for your child. but you should see compatibility of your phone before buying the product. the soft wares needed to be downloaded on to the phone to get this robot going. Try to download the software, if it downloads, its compatible. Sounds silly but that's what it actually is. I got a Samsung Note 9, Galaxy S8+ and a Samsung Tab A. Only Tab A works. Dash soft wares are really educative and fun to play with. This is the first level of programming which your child is getting into.
