I skipped this one when it came out as I had not seen the first two and so had no attachment to it.
This was probably a reasonable thing to do. I have seen it now, however.
The rom-com elements have pretty much vanished or, rather, have being melded with the fantasy so thoroughly that they cannot be distinguished.
Adults should enjoy the fantasy, but it is really done for the kids, not the adults.
The "smart-mouth fat museum guard" motif introduced in the second film is expanded here, becoming an integral part of the story and, by the end, a good one.
The quality of the film has not dropped: it is as well-done as the earlier two.
If you liked the earlier ones, you should like this one just as much, if not more.

Night at the Museum's the Secret of the tomb is (I think) the best of the NatM movies. It's sadly ironic that this one was the most hilarious of them all. The cave man, La, played by ben stiller himself was a riot. Especially when La called him "Dada"! And another irony is the fact that Robin Williams had a larger role in the movie as the wax figure of Teddy Roosevelt. And Mickey Rooney reprising his role as the acerbic old guard got in a few quips as well. It was surreal to watch (and enjoy) this movie knowing that Robin and Mickey are no longer with us. My deepest sympathies goes out to their families. But if I may offer a bit of consolation, they will live on through their great works. The plot to this movie was a good one, where the first two were mainly about protecting the magical museum and keeping it secret, this latest one was suspenseful as they rush to England to save the golden tablet --which is starting to decay at an alarming rate-- that is the source of the ancient Egyptian power that enables the nightly animation of the museums exhibits. And the little Rhesus monkey is hilarious and the things that they have trained him to do is truly amazing! ***shigh*** Yes, The Secret of the Tomb is the best and funniest of the Museum series, but also the saddest. The world has lost two of comedies greatest talents. And the world is just a little less brighter without them.

Nachts im Museum 3 - Das geheimnisvolle Grabmal ist eine us amerikanische Komödie aus dem Jahr 2014 und die zweite Fortsetzung der Nacht im Museum Reihe die mit diesem Film zu einer Trilogie geworden ist. Diesmal muss Nachtwächter Larry Daley ins British Museum in London / England reisen um seinen Freunden zu helfen.

Nachdem es Larry Daley gelungen ist eine Nachtshow im American Museum of Natural History zu etablieren wird diese immer populärer. Und zieht immer mehr Menschen an. Doch bei einem sehr wichtigen Termin läuft einiges schief. Die Kräfte der Tafel von Ahkmenrah wird sichtbar schwächer. Alle machen sich große Sorgen. Und Larry muss Ahkmenrahs Eltern suchen um die Kräfte der Tafel zu retten.

Fortsetzungen sind immer schwierig, gerade auch bei Überraschungserfolgen. Und der erste Film war sicherlich so eine. Wer hätte damals gedacht das man hier den Beginn einer erfolgreichen Trilogie sieht. Doch finde ich das beide Fortsetzungen durchaus gelungen sind. Auch wenn man sich von dem Konzept des ersten Films in keinster Weise entfernt hat. Was zugegeben auch oft kritisiert wird.

Im dritten Teil wird wieder der Schauplatz geändert. Wobei die Handlung wieder in einem Museum (wo auch sonst bei dem Titel?) spielt nur eben in einer anderen Stadt und diesmal auch anderen Land. Nach New York, Washington jetzt eben London.

Die Handlung ist sicher nicht anspruchsvollste doch sehr unterhaltsam. Man bekommt einfaches Popcorn Kino geboten. Mit der Regie war auch bei diesem Teil wieder Shawn Levy betraut.
Ben Stiller (einer meiner Lieblingsschauspieler) spielt hier einfach toll und Robbie Williams ist hier in einen seiner letzten Filme zu sehen. Daneben kann man auch wieder Owen Wilson, Ricky Gervais, Patrick Gallagher, Rami Malek, Mizuo Peck, Steve Coogan, Dick Van Dyke, Mickey Rooney und Bill Cobbs bewundern. Neu hier sind Ben Kingsley, Dan Stevens und eine tolle und lustige Rebel Wilson.

Die Blu-ray ist auch überzeugend. Man bekommt den Film in einer tollen Bild und Ton Qualität sowie mit einigen interessanten und oftmals auch lustigen Extras.

Fortsetzungen werden oft als schlecht angesehen. Diese hier fällt daher aus dem Rahmen. Der Film ist eine tolle Fortsetzung einer tollen, lustigen, einfach guten Trilogie und ein gelungener Abschluss. Wer sich auf den Film einlässt wird es nicht bereuen.
