Love this machine! I was so tired of the new HE washers that I wanted to go back to the old school kind. This machine provides that. It is very heavy and solid. I can fill with water and get clothes cleaner than ever. No problems with mildew smells and cleaning cycles like HE washers.
Bought this to replace a malfunctioning HE top loader, which was never very good at cleaning... Installed quickly with included instructions. Working like a champ! Cleanest my clothes have been in a while. It's only been a few days, but I'm growing very fond of my Speed Queen. She is fast and cleans well. My dingy workout clothes are cleaner than I've seen them in a LONG time. My first loads were really dirty floor mop towels, a couple of wet rugs, a large load of jeans, and the previously mentioned workout clothes. Success with each load! The queen is not a quiet machine, but I keep my laundry room door closed. It is adjacent to my kitchen and is not bothersome when running. It does not shake and thump like my old machine did, even on spin and with large loads. The tub does not move around the way my old one did. It seems supported and stable. It is also very deep.
This has been an awful experience. I purchased this online to save about $75 from my local dealer and have it shipped directly to me. Big mistake. The seller and shipper were great. This is strictly a product review. We noticed a small, small ding upon inspection during reciept. The box was in perfect, condition so clearly this was done in the factory. Not a big deal, cosmetic damage, or so we thought. When we went to level, we noticed a leg bent up inside the machine. My washer would not balance despite being perfectly level. Clearly is was dropped in the factory.
My washer goes crazy no matter the size of a balanced load.
I can't wash like this.
In fairness, the water adjustment was easy and though I cannot tell a difference in cleanliness, i can with texture and smell.
As some other reviewers said, it does seem to cause lint issues.
So we called Speed Queen. They said they reimburse a local place to repair. So we called the name of the place they gave us. They refused to repair it since we did not purchase it from then.
We called Speed Queen again (often it takes awhile to hear back from them-- couple of days).
They stated we can maybe drive an hour away to another shop and see if they will fix it. I am not hauling the washer an hour away.
Will keep you updated, but if you buy online, YOU DO NOT HAVE A WARRANTY!
So far I don't like this machine! I was very excited after seeing the positive reviews, but after running 5 white bath towels through a bleach load - TWICE - they are still not clean, in fact, they are gross. What am I missing here?
I bought this washer (not at Amazon) to replace a 4-year old GE. The GE has the computer sitting on the motor. Is anybody surprised that after only 4 years it would not work in hot weather? The repairs would have cost half the cost of the machine, and it wouldn't solve the problem in the long run, unless I moved to Alaska, I suppose. In addition, the so-called rinse was a joke. It was a low water use machine, of course, but I often ran loads through one cycle with soap and 2-3 more full cycles without soap. I measure liquid soap with a tablespoon and never, ever over-use it. Time for a new machine.
Enter the Speed Queen. No computer on this version. (Somebody complained about issues that only apply to the computerized version, so check the reviews carefully to make sure you're reading about the machine you are interested in.) I like that this machine is US built, has fully mechanical controls, and doesn't limit you to 1/2 cup of water to wash in. However ....
The "mini" water level is about 1/2 tub, so to me it isn't mini. I think it wastes water if I'm really wanting to wash only one or two items or a few small ones.
There is no way to know how long a cycle or an agitation phase lasts unless you stand there with a stopwatch. On the other hand, the cycles are not nearly as long as the GE. Without the computer, it doesn't have to sit there and do nothing while an unselected activity would otherwise be happening. The GE cycles took seemingly forever.
On the hand wash / gentle cycle, there are 2 instances of very gentle agitation of approximately 30 seconds. I don't think this is enough. However, the reasoning may be that really delicate items couldn't stand more agitation. This presumption is ruined by the rinse cycles. These agitate stronger and for longer than the wash, so how can the limited agitation be to preserve fabric?
I've developed workarounds. My clothes don't get very dirty (office worker, don't fix cars or garden). I wash most clothes on "soak / spin". This give a strength and length of agitation I'm happy with. Then I use another cycle's rinse (and sometimes second rinse) to finish the load. Even doing this, the total time is less than the previous washer.
I don't use the heavy duty / permanent press cycle often. It agitates more strongly than I want or need for my barely-dirty clothes. Even some of my towels recommend a lighter agitation. The "normal / ECO" wash is limited to cold water and one rinse, but it's useful sometimes to finish a "soak / spin" load of wash.
A bonus for me is that this washer rinses very well. It doesn't only rinse and drain, and it doesn't only spin and force water through. Either one alone isn't usually enough, in my opinion. Depending on the cycle selected, this washer does both. What extra water I may be using by the large "mini" size is more than made up for by the repeated rinses I'm no longer forced to do.
As another reviewer said, no washers have consistently great reviews, but I'm still very glad I bought the Speed Queen despite my mild dislikes. It isn't perfect, but I've never found one that is.
This Speed Queen washer works great!!! It has a stainless steel drum with old fashioned dial controls (the less electronic stuff on a washing machine the less will go wrong). It is a high efficiency machine (meaning less water usage); however, you can set the water manually by selecting a large load size to insure extra dirty clothes are cleaned well. The annoying thing that most other folks who purchased this machine have noted is that water flow to the tub will shut off when you lift the lid. There's no spinning or agitation going on so I don't understand why they would design it so that the tub won't fill with the lid up. I bought Speed Queen because they are built well and last a long time. My sister has one that is still going strong after 30 years of use.
I just purchase this washer after my GE self destructed after only 6 years of use, in a 1 person household.. I wanted a no bells and whistles washer with no control panel.( my utility room is in an unheated/uncooled garage) This washer fit the bill. My clothes are cleaner and it does not take an hour and a half to do a load of clothes. It also spins the clothes to almost dry. It used to take two cycles in my dryer to get a load of towels dry with old washer, now it only take one cycle or less with SQ. This is a quality built machine, with heavy construction, I hope it will last 25 years like washers did in the past.
It has a 3 year warranty. ...already need to use it. I reached out to some speed queen people and no one has gotten back to me. So much for the warranty
