The radio never works in my building, but if I use it anywhere else, it's a pretty good signal. I would invest in a decent set of plug-in headphones, because while my cheap ones work fine, in a noisy area, better quality headphones will make a noticeable difference. I don't mean fancy ones but I bought some Sony headphones (I can't wear earbuds) for 30 bucks and the sound quality is fantastic.
A fully charged battery will last my whole 8 to 9 hour shift as long as I don't skip around or rewind a lot on audiobooks. Less than a full battery, or lots of pauses and skips will only last 6 hours, roughly. Music will actually last me a couple days at work in a full battery. Half battery will last 1 work shift.
Great for kids who want to listen to music with out needing to spend a lot on a smart device that streams music.
A bit more difficult to find music in mp3 format so you'll have to figure that out. I just had old music from an iPod that use to work.
Definitely a better value than some of the knock off iPods with bad reviews.
Super light-weight and holds a lot of music, this is perfect.
It is awful. The functionality that I used most with my Clip+ is completely gone here, and other functions are confusing or poorly designed.
1. The power button is the big one in the middle. It is too big and too easily mashed to turn the thing off or on - but if I actually intend to turn it off while it's playing? takes multiple presses which distracts me from what I'm doing.
2. There is no "play all" when playing in File or SD Card mode. I use a folder hierarchy to sort my music so that I don't have to create mood/genre playlists every time I have more music, but I can't just play my "Instrumental" folder - I have to drill down through "Jazz" then choose Early Jazz or Modern Jazz, then if I have artist folders, the artist, and maybe even the album. This is frustrating because I don't want to have to edit every single file to fix the artist, so that I can play through "Artist" mode. I have an album of BBKing duets and an album of BBKing + Eric Clapton. I can't play them all with Artist or Album modes OR by selecting my "Blues/BBKing" folder. And if I tried "genre", I'd get all the Blues music, but not all of the music I would call blues is labeled blues, so I have to put in extra work to fix the genres. But if I had "play all" for folders instead of having to drill down, there wouldn't be a problem. (This is how I did it with the Clip+! it was great!)
3. the "Play Random" is completely broken. It will randomly choose 10 songs to play. I will turn off the player for a short period of time, then start it again. Those same 10 songs will play *in reverse order*. The next day, I turn the thing on, and the new batch of 10 songs includes 8 that were played the day before, in nearly the same order. If it goes to a new song, and I was like "wait, what was the one I just listened to?" and try to go back, only half the time will it go back to the previously played song. And then if I try to go forward again there's only a 50% chance that it will find the song. Sometimes I can back up and go forward through 3 songs 3 times and only 1 will change. Why?? It's not truly random, and it's frustrating when I'm trying to build a Go List or listening to new music. I miss the way the old Clip+ would create a random playlist and keep it steady for an entire playthrough (beginning to end!) unless you added or removed music.
4. The buttons are very confusing. Sometimes you need to use the upper arrow button to get back to the previous menu, sometimes it's the left/reverse button. Sometimes the left/reverse button does nothing and the upper arrow button takes you to a higher level menu and sometimes it doesn't.
5. The Clip+ showed Song Title + Artist on the main screen. This only shows the song title, then scrolls it, then shows the artist/album, all with a three second delay. When I have seven songs by different artists called "Home", it's really nice to see who the artist is if I'm clicking through to get to a specific one I want to hear.
6. The support for non-Roman characters is very poor. Accented characters like ë or à are smaller than others, which is hard to read. Sometimes Asian characters (Korean or Chinese or Japanese or fixed-space roman characters on some Japanese songs) don't display at all, but sometimes they do.
7. There is no way to remove songs from the Go List without clearing the list entirely.
8. The Music menu doesn't recognize the SD Disk music, which the Clip+ did do.
What are the good things about this player?
1. It clips to my clothes and is a decent size while I'm riding my bike (or sticking in my pocket, except DON'T DO THAT it will turn itself on/off)
2. It doesn't have a useless video screen or anything.
3. It uses the newer micro-USB charger that my phone does.
4. There are 3 different Go List playlist options.
I hate it and I've had it for about half a year now, and every time I use it, I just hate it more and more. I wish I had returned it to SanDisk sooner after I bought it for a refund because there must be better players out there, but I trusted that after the excellent Clip+, this one would be worth my time.
