If I could give this a zero, I would. It neither charges my Macbook nor functions properly as a USB port (used with wireless mouse and external hard drive). I must have received a faulty product, since the others seem to be happy with their purchases, and that video shows a functional hub. I, however, was extremely displeased with my purchase, especially since I returned a functional product to the Apple store in exchange. It also was supposed to ship with Prime, but wasn't received for five and a half days (granted, there was a weekend in there). Also--and this was only an aesthetic irritation--the product arrived dirty with little scratches on it (see photo).

This hub does not work as promised -- at least those that I received at the end of September 2015.
I bought two of these for my spouse's and my 12" MacBooks, which we purchased earlier this year. I briefly tested these and thought that they worked great -- our MacBook's made a sound when connected, and I saw the lightening bolt in the charging window at the top of the screen. These were then put away until a business/vacation trip which we just returned from.
Unfortunately, I learned that just because the lighting bolt is activated, it does not mean the battery is charging, per the attached photo. Further testing showed that at times the battery may drain down completely while this is plugged in and pretending to charge. Other times the hub will power the MacBook, but will not charge the battery. And on rare times, it will work perfectly -- sometimes saying that it is charging when it is charging, and charging when it reports that it isn't charging -- or that it will take 20 hours or more to charge, only to charge as quickly as a direct connection from the power cord.
Soon after El Capitan was released, I upgraded my OS, but my spouse's MacBook remains on Yosemite's latest update. Each of our hubs operates the same (erratically) on each of our MacBook's.
As the order is older than 30 days, I can't do an Amazon return, and I wrote Gambolex a few moments ago, but I don't know if they will issue a refund or will (or can) replace with a bit newer model -- if these bugs have been isolated and fixed.
As a former I.T. Director, I am kicking myself for not doing more testing on these hubs before going away on my trip.Read more ›
