Direct comparison with fluorescents - light, heat and power

I used these strips to replace two single bulb fluorescent lights. I glued them to both sides of a 1 inch x 1/8 inch aluminum bar M-D Building Products 60749 1-Inch by 1/8-Inch by 48-Inch Flat Bar Mill so I had two 48" long strips laying on brackets, facing up and down behind a valance. Here is what I found. The light output of these strips was very close to that of the fluorescent bulbs, about 80% according to my camera light meter (reading on the ceiling about 6" above the bulbs). The LED strips got warmer than the fluorescent bulbs, running at about 100F, with strips on both sides of these aluminum bars. This compared to about 90F fluorescent bulbs. The fluorescents were rated at 4000K light color and looked blue-er than the LEDs. This is expected because the LED's are "warm" which means they should be 2700-3000K, and should be more yellow. The fluorescents were pulling 71 watts when warmed up, while the LED used only 34 watts, almost exactly half the power consumption! In the photo, the fluorescent is on the left and the new LED's on the right.

Unreliable and Frustrating Results after trying 2 dimmer units

I'm not impressed with these dimmers in the slightest. I mistakenly ordered 2 while ordering the LED strip lights & adaptor. After I setup the lights and adaptor I connecting the dimmer I find it extremely unreliable and frustrating.

The remote won't turn the lights on unless it's in extremely close proximity to the cord and even then I often have to press it 5-10 times and/or remove the remote battery and re-install it before the strip will turn on.

Once they are on, if I'm still nearly touching the remote to the cord the dimming and flash function do work as advertised. However, in order to change the dimmer up/down or flash function you must re click the button each time, holding it down doesn't work.

Being able to use a remote to turn the lights on & dim them is a function required for our chosen LED lights.

After installing the second dimmer & getting the same frustrating results I cannot recommend this dimmer to anyone that wishes to keep their sanity during use.

Mother Loves Me Now

It was one of the best christmas presents I've ever given my mother, the controller and string lights that is. I installed them (the lights) on on the bottom of her upper kitchen cabinets so that she would be able to read her receipts more easily among other things like basic cleaning. She's a clean freak.

It's a little difficult to rate only the controller without talking about the lights too, how it function in conjunction with this controller itself so read on if you wish.

I liked them (all 3 remotes & string lights) so much I started putting them in other places like dark closets. So bright that I replaced the 4' fluorescent bulbs. Only drawback is when you're trying to control just one when you have multiples strings in the Kitchen you may turn on others as well and it can become a little frustrating, for her and others. At times one or two will come on but when you push the "on" button again one will go off and another might come on. I find it a little amusing to tell you the truth and get a good laugh out of watching my mother.

I simple repeatedly press the on/off power button several times, fast, and it seems to sync all of them together (if only one came on) and then you're good to do as you wish, all on or all off. If you are going to install many different strings of them it would be best to wire them directly to one another and only have one controller instead of two if possible. There may be a way to get different controls with individual (RF) radio frequencies from the same company however I solved this one time issue by purchasing a different brand but it appears in was made buy the exact same company, just different button layout/labeling. "LE" Mini Remote Controller for Single Color..."

They use so little energy I don't worry about turning on all of them at once in the kitchen. I will be buying and giving these out for presents for the rest of my life I do believe.

One last thought, since my parents are in their 80's, I will be installing more of them down low for 'night-lights', like the staircases, bathrooms and the garages. The locations are endless. Enjoy and have fun with them.

P.S. I don't have time to proofread this so I hope you'll understand if it's not perfect. I've been using this controller and the "LE Mini Remote controller for Single Color LED Strip Lights, RF, Dimmer"

they do work...

thought that id use these to do non-solder connections to go around corners and/or any of the combinations of configurations that the variety mixture. i had purchased waterproof LED strips, and found that these don't work for that application due to the waterproofing.... my bad... but i came up with a way to strip back the covering and use them now to try out several combinations, a la trial lighting. I found that making 90 degree corners take up a lot of room with the connectors provided, so i actually have soldered wires to the clamping connector part and make the corner . the connector helps hide the transition, plus can go either way.
I was also having a hard time getting the non waterproof LED strip to fit under the tiny pins. i now insert a thin object under the pins and pry them up just a smidge. that seems to work. the few attempts at trying to insert the the strip into the connector the better it is... also removing about a 1/2 inch of the backing for the adhesive allows a bit more room to slide the led strip under and keeps it from sliding out once the connector is closed. i believe the connectors would be good in under cabinet lighting, back lighting tvs, etc....

This item worked perfectly for my little project where I took a sign that had all the light either on or off so I rewired with a chaser module and added a battery pack and this remote control.
It now can be placed anywhere... see the attached video!

Works great, haven't had any of the problems mentioned in some of the other reviews. You do have to leave the power on all the time (if switched) or leave it plugged in and only power on/off via the remote. I have one set of these lights on a switch and if you switch it off, that resets everything when it is switched on.

Also nice that they don't seem to be price-gouging as seems to be the tradeoff for Amazon convenience lately.
