There are several models of the UniFi line of wireless access points (WAP or AP). The Amazon descriptions don't tell you everything so this review is intended to give an overview of the product line. These devices are made by Ubiquiti, a company most known for supplying wireless gear to the networking professional. Because of remarkable pricing, high reliability, and marketing via consumer outlets such as Amazon, more and more folks are getting turned onto Ubiquiti gear. Although Ubiquiti has a track record of promising, and even advertising, features that materialize either late or never, UniFi still gives you great bang for the buck. :>

Be advised that you need to be tech savvy to configure Ubiquiti products. They don't have push-button setup and there is no telephone support. Most configuration questions are handled through the community forums. I'm going to tell you right now though that if you don't have some networking background the forums may put you off. It's frequented by folks who install UniFi for a living and they speak in techno-talk. No real hand-holding but rather, practical advice from people who do UniFi every day and speak the lingo of WiFi and RF (Radio Frequency). Having said that, if you are the learning/researching type that's good at reading documentation you may well not even need the forum.

Let's move on and point out the main features of UniFi. UniFi access points are often deployed as part of a "managed WiFi system", i.e. hotspot software (although a UniFi system can be a single access point). UniFi is often used in the hospitality industry where something more than a WiFi password scratched on a piece of paper is required.

I have both an AC Lite and AC Lite LR in my rural 2200 sq foot partly log home (with no other wireless anywhere close), and have installed their 2.4G products in my employer's office (a handful of networks in the area). Both locations previously had consumer wireless routers in AP mode. Resetting routers was a pretty normal operation in both locations, every week or two something would hang. No more. These just sit there like Frisbees with blue led rings, and work. Boring - just like you want your wireless equipment to be.

The AC LItes are in my home, one on the first and one on the second floor. No more dead zones with the previous multiple brands and devices, 2.4G everywhere and 5G coverage almost everywhere through multiple walls. 2.4G set as HT40, 5G HT80, 800Mb in the same room and 200Mb several rooms away with AC. No compatibility problems, my 20 something kids connected their assorted iStuff, android devices, and Macs/PCs with no complaints, and all of our assorted fruity things, tablets, phones, and laptops work fine. Unlike some consumer routers used in access point mode (cough, cough, NG) DHCP works thorough them like it's supposed to. Like I said, boring. Darn, it removed all the drama from wireless networking :)

Ubiquiti gear requires more effort to install than the consumer products, and is definitely not plug and pray. They're used in places with a single AP, and locations with hundreds or thousands of them. Not all that hard to set up, but you might need some help if you're not familiar with networking. They're access points, which means you'll still need a router between them and your Internet connection.

UPDATE 1/19/2016 - I now have 10 of these in a AWS Controller:

How-To: Adopt New Ubiquity UniFi Wireless Access Point Pro AC (Unifi AC Pro Lite) to AWS Controller

Easy- With DNS Server. - Set a CNAME Record to point "unifi" to AWS External Static IP. - Wait for replication / reboot switch if needed.

OR

Hardware:
Switch - Generic auto DHCP / Unmanaged. - Connect to Internet
Computer - Connect to Switch
POE / LAN Injector - Connect One to Switch other to Device - Plug in power cord.

Software:
Download "Putty" from Internet on Computer - http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/download.html
(putty.exe) is what I used. aka PuTTY

SETUP:
Run the exe - Choose SSH

Download the Ubituiti Device Discovery Tool: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/ubiquiti-device-discovery/hmpigflbjeapnknladcfphgkemopofig?hl=en - This is a Chrome Extension - You will need Chrome installed on your PC.

Run the tool - It will scan and give you an SSH Address for your device. Mine Changed from the default 192.168.1.20 to 192.168.0.115

Enter the IP listed in putty - The username and password defaults are ubnt / ubnt

-NOTE: You may need to install a local controller on your system - Adopt and Upgrade the Firmware depending on the default that is installed on your device before this if below does not work.

It connects Enter: syswrapper.sh restore-default
Your Device will reboot and PuTTY will lose it's connection
Close the PuTTY Window and Re-open PuTTY and Reconnect - Be sure to click the SSH box in PuTTY.
