I'm new to arduino. It took me a few hours to get this working, all because of that. From what I have found, this sensor MUST work in parasitic mode, where it steals power from the sensor line during a window in the bus cycle where it's high. An on-board capacity stores enough power to keep it working during the rest of the cycle. I was unable to get it to work by supplying + to the VDD (red) wire. I had to ground the GND (black) and VDD (red) wires and while the DATA (yellow) wire runs to the digital port of your choice, it also has to be tied to +5v through a resistor. I experimented with different values and they all seemed to give me the same results. I tried 2k - 5k. My unscientific calibration test had the probe under my tongue for a couple of minutes, which gave a reading of 97.25 degrees F, when it finally settled. It took about two minutes for it to reach that reading. One degree is pretty darned good in my opinion.

Note that I had to change the library to use parasitic mode, by flipping a hard-coded value in DallasTemperatur.cpp:

Dimensions: the metal probe is just under 1/4" in diameter (15/64").
It's exactly 1" long to the plastic base.
That base is exactly 1/4" in diameter and is another 1" in length.
