I purchased this cd sometime back. This features the hit single "The One You Love" which at the time was unavailable on MP3. Glenn Frey was always a favorite artist of mine. He was lead vocals for most of the Eagles hits. He sang with a strong but gentle heartfelt voice. This cd represents some of the best at the beginning of his solo career. The melancholy hit single is told from the standpoint of a fellow who's girl is in the process of leaving him for her former love-the one she loves-despite past bad treatment from this guy. He reminds her of this in an effort to make her stay with him-the one who loves you. You gather she leaves anyway. Many of the songs he wrote or co-wrote with Don Henley were based on real life observations and expressed in song the observed person's sad lot in life. "Lying Eyes" for instance was inspired by a pretty young woman they saw with a rich old man at a bar-the song tells the rest.. His untimely death marked the end of an era. We'll miss you Glenn.

This is an all around good 10 tracks album,
here's Frey's first 3 charted solo hits & 2 of their B-sides.
Glen Frey being the founding member of the Eagles,
hasn't strayed very far from that classic sound on this, his debut solo album.

The hits & B-sides are ~
1. 'I found somebody' b/w 'She can't let go'
2. 'The one you love' b/w 'All those lies' (b-side before released as a single)
3. 'All those lies' b/w 'That girl'
My all time favorite Frey songs are here, so for me this one C.D. is all I need.

However ~ all 3 of those songs were hits in 1982.
Frey went on to chart 9 more songs between 1984 and 1992,
five of which landed in Billboards top twenty.

Having dropped into Muscle Shoals several times to give a hand to his buddy, Bob Seger, it was inevitable that he would begin his solo career here. Backed by an all-star lineup of Roger Hawkins-drums, David Hood-bass, Clayton Ivey-piano, Duncan Cameron and Wayne Perkins-guitars, and Harvey Thompson and Ronnie Eads of the Muscle Shoals Horns along with all the L.A. musicians, there was never a doubt about the quality of this album. It didn't receive as much recognition as it deserved because it hit at the same time as the advent of MTV. While most Americans were hooked on A Flock Of Seagulls, Haircut 100, etc., this album slipped by largely unnoticed. All one has to do is listen to a ballad like That Girl and wonder what was wrong with people back in 1982. And kudos to Eddie Hinton, God rest his tortured soul, for teaching Frey the "Bobby Womack Chinese soul" licks way back in 1971. It really came in handy on I Found Somebody and That Girl.

イーグルス解散後にリリースされた、グレン・フライの初ソロ作品。

僕は８０年代に洋楽の洗礼を浴びた世代なので、モノゴゴロがついた時にはすでにイーグルスは解散していた。そうだ、よくよく思い返すと、「ホテル・カルフォルニア」よりも先に、ドン・ヘンリーの「ボーイズ・オブ・サマー」やグレン・フライの「ヒート・イズ・オン」を聴いたのだった。だから、その２人がかつて同じバンドで活動していたことを知った時も、なんとなくピンとこなかった。あまりにも対照的な２人。絵にかいたような陰と陽。自分もそれなりに繊細で多感な時期だったので、どちらかというとドン・ヘンリーに惹かれており、グレン・フライについては「なんだか能天気なおっさん」と決めつけていたような気がする（だって、どうしてもエディ・マーフィの顔が浮かんできてしまうし・・・）。

来月、実に７年ぶりのイーグルス来日公演がある。それで、ふと思い返してこのアルバムを聴いてみた。なんだ・・・いいじゃないですか。映画に出てくるような、どこまでも続く一本道のハイウェイを旅している気分。もしかするとこの当時、グレン・フライ自身もイーグルスの呪縛から解き放たれて、自由な気分を満喫していたのかもしれない。そんな解放感に溢れた、良質なアメリカン・ロックの一品。
