Teach Your Child to Fish: Five Money Habits Every Child Should Master Kindle Edition
What would you teach your younger self about money if you had the opportunity?
Unfortunately, most schools don’t teach money management. Money habits whether good or bad are passed down through the generations at home. What were you taught?
Is it the same thing you want to teach your children?
Statistics show that most of what we’ve learned about money from our parents was not adequate to help us achieve financial freedom. The majority of American adults are in debt with very little savings.
But what if it could be different for your child?
It can be.
If you want to set your child up for financial success then you have to homeschool them on money. That’s what the wealthy do!
Teach Your Child to Fish gives you the curriculum to teach your child to build wealth young and to manage their money wisely for the rest of their lives.
In this quick and easy to implement resource Holly Reid, a Certified Public Accountant, shares a Biblical perspective on how to help your child...
- Find a purpose driven career so they can make money without ever ‘working’ a day in their lives
- Be a conscious consumer so they don’t fall prey to savvy marketers
- Use credit responsibly so they don’t end up trapped in debt
- Make charitable giving a lifestyle so they experience the joy of living in service
And more.
As an added bonus, Teach Your Child to Fish includes a workbook with interactive money lessons and games to teach kids about money management, credit and giving. This resource is your money roadmap to financial peace for you and your family.

About the author

Holly is a Certified Public Accountant and a finance professional with over 15 years of experience serving the media and entertainment industry.
Her passion for personal finance led her to pen her first book targeted to parents to highlight the importance of money management and to provide them with the tools to give their kids a head start. As a Christian, Holly was compelled to connect her passion with her faith and considers the word of God a master playbook for all life lessons. This is exhibited in her use of scripture and biblical references to support and reinforce each money habit.
As the youngest of four siblings, Holly is no stranger of doing more with less. Exposure to the broad economic landscape and its disparities, piqued her interest to understand money management and propelled her to discover savvy ways to save and experience financial harmony as an adult. Furthermore, her personal financial mistakes and rebounds now fuel her to build a legacy worth leaving.

I therefore liked the authors practical approach to teaching your children how to "financially fish" for themselves. I particularly liked the first chapter being about working hard for what you earn. I also liked how she encourages parents to help their children discover and cultivate their skills and passions. The chapter on understanding debt was also good for parents who want to make their children aware of this potential trap. The author also discusses the importance of helping your children know the difference between needs and wants, so that they can spend wisely, and have enough to save and give.
This book is an easy read that covers many fundamental principles that children need to know to manage money better.
I particularly enjoyed the recommended activities section at the end of each section and the final thoughts in which the chapter is pulled together. While the author is a CPA, she also presents a strong Christian viewpoint and quotes scripture to reinforce her lessons. This book may serve as a reference manual to be implemented at many different stages in a child's life. I particularly recommend it for parents of children in the eight to twelve age group.
BUT every other page quotes the Bible. I did see that many people wrote that she quoted the Bible and the story of fishing comes from the Bible, I think. But I didn't think the Bible would be quoted so heavily - literally every other page has Verse in it. Which is totally fine if you are raising your child Christian because many of these teachings will be reinforced in church and school (if they attend a Christian based school). But now on top of teaching finance I felt I was going to be teaching the Bible too and we are not Christian.
Really the book is teaching common sense which children need when teaching kids about money but it is more of a faith based book on how to live a good Christian life and follow the teachings of the Bible which includes finance.
So, it's not a bad book.
I only recommend this book if you are Christian and you are raising your child based on the teachings of the Bible.
I would categorize this book under Religious/Christian Children's books - not finance books.

It should be noted that the book approaches the subject of money management from a Christian perspective, and includes citations and references to the Bible throughout. But even if you are not Christian or interested in the religious messages, this book is a helpful tool for aiding your child in learning solid money management skills and building healthy money awareness. The only reason I did not give five stars to this book is because I think the fact that it approaches the subject from a decidedly religious perspective should be clearer in the subtitle and introduction so that people are aware of this underlying aspect.
A useful addition to the realm of financial education for children!
