Although this is a reading book regarding emotions, every year the Kindergarten class at my two daughters' school uses this book to do Valentine's Day projects for their parents. Each animal in the book represents a particular emotion, and the animal itself is made up of various sizes of hearts. Each animal has its own individual page, and has its own emotion coupled with a rhyming word. For example, Crafty as a Fox, or Cool as a Penguin. Very ingenious and imaginative. The students simply pick an animal out, cut out their hearts, and assemble it according to the picture.
When my oldest daughter did her project she was so excited regarding the different animals that were made out of hearts she barely took a breath telling me all about it after school. She told me I had to immediately go to the store and buy the book, because she needed to make all the animals in the book for Grandma. Plus she said the rhyming was fun. So I bought the book.
It is an adorable book, and well worth the money if you have young children or even young grandchildren. I would buy this book again, and in fact I am keeping this book. Someday I will be sharing this book with any grandchildren I may have, because it is well worth keeping.

This board book had become my 18 month old's favourite book. He often brings this book to me so that I can read this to him. Both the rhymes and the illustrations are very attention grabbing and are done in a very tasteful way. The illustrations are made of heart shapes which oozes creativity.Each page has a illustration of an animal and a sentence which rhymes with the sentence on next page. There are couple of pages where the rhyme and animal is spread over both the pages. The pages of board book seem to be thick enough that my kid cannot destroy them yet.I loved the following about this board book1. The illustrations make use of contrasting colors between the animal and the background which makes very page very interesting to look at.2. Each animal is made up of heart shapes of different sizes. Different heart shapes have sort of analogous color schemes which makes the animal pop out against the contrasting color background.3. The rhymes are also very catchy and I often dramatize the various rhyming sentences (such as "Angry as a bear") which my kid loves.4. You could also have an activity at home with an older kid where you can try to make the same animal shapes using heart cut-outs. However, my kid is not that old yet.However, you should keep the following in mind before buying this book1. Although each page has an illustration of an animal, but these would not be helpful to teach a child about actual animals. This book is more for play-time than an educational tool.2. The book doesn't have any fabric or feeling material. If you are looking for such books I would highly recommend matthew van fleet's mini board books (Munch!: Mini Board Book, Sniff!: Mini Board Book, Lick!: Mini Board Book) which are in the same price range, have rhymes, fabric, and moving pieces as well.
