We all saw the early graphics comparison videos to the PS3 versions, and the visuals were extremely dark (if fact we can all agree they looked like they were going to be worse than the PS3 version). Rocksteady then delayed the release of this version (based on the negative response to the graphics is unknown). Now that it is here, I will say they overcompensated for the early negative response by making the default brightness extremely bright. Even the IGN review comments on this... the extreme brightness of the environment kills the atmosphere and mood. HOWEVER, if you adjust the brightness settings to about 1/4 of the full bar the game looks amazing! Everything is crisp, clear, and a massive upgrade from the PS3 versions. Hope this helps anyone on the fence in purchasing. Please click "Yes" below if you found this information helpful... I was definitely on the fence (even after the IGN review) but I'm now glad I did.

When Arkham Knight came out, I wished that they would remake Arkham City so it could look as good. Then they did. This isn't a lazy port like the Ezio Trilogy that takes the existing game and just sets it to "max settings" and ships it out as an HD port. The developers took the existing games made in the Unreal 3 engine and ported it to the Unreal 4 engine. This game absolutely feels like an upgrade.

The games themselves still play the same, which is not terribly surprising, but really works to the detriment of Arkham Asylum, which has aged the worst of all the Arkham games. The combat in Asylum was great for its time, but Rocksteady refined it so much in Arkham City and Arkham Knight that, by today's standards - Asylum's combat feels clunky, awkward, and unresponsive.

This is perhaps *too* perfect of a port, retaining Asylum's poorly-aged combat, but I can't take points off for them doing too good of a job on porting this collection to the next generation.

If you're a fan of Batman and you didn't play the Arkham games on PS3/360, they're definitely worth your time and this collection is a fantastic jumping point for players who may want to catch up on the story before playing Arkham Knight.

A Great Remaster with One Major Flaw

Little needs to be said about how great these two games are and the epic standard they set for comic book video games. Owning these masterpieces is a no-brainer but the ultimate question facing buyers is whether or not this collection is actually worth it. The short answer is yes, if you can get past an uneven frame rate.

The graphics themselves look excellent and the sound is crystal clear. The one area where this remaster really shines is in the graphical department; Batman's cape looks textured and strong, Joker's suit appears weathered and Catwoman's signature catsuit is shiny and sleek. When it comes to detail this version manages to improve upon the originals and adds even more tweaks to these already impressive models. The characters themselves look a bit off at times (especially Batman and Commissioner Gordon) but overall there's nothing too distracting. Some may be bothered by the brighter environments but it's not enough to ruin the atmosphere. Arkham Asylum still feels creepy and Arkham City is as seedy and dirty as ever. The games play as well as they did initially and I encountered very few problems. Those fun combos are just as easy to pull off as ever; on the surface everything looks and sounds amazing.

Unfortunately the frame rate is where this collection suffers and it will likely be the biggest point of contention for most gamers. Both games feel choppy and the frame stuttering is noticeable almost right away. There are parts in Asylum, especially in the sewers and throughout the various corridors, where the stuttering is constant and it becomes distracting the longer it goes on. My wife even mentioned that it was making her a bit nauseous and I've heard from several others who experienced motion sickness or headaches from the inconsistent frame rate. City seems to run a bit smoother, although it feels faster for some reason that I can't explain, but it's still there and gliding through the air feels less majestic because of this. It's not game-breaking and eventually you will adapt to it, but it's hard not to be disappointed that this wasn't locked at 60 fps. The Uncharted Collection did this flawlessly and I wish more remasters would follow that blueprint. At the time of writing this (11/2/16) there hasn't been an update to fix this problem. I'll edit my review if a patch happens to be released but for now it's something we'll have to live with.

Return to Arkham is a great collection with a fresh coat of paint, something that is only held back by the unlocked frame rate. At this point in time I would recommend waiting for a price drop if you're on the fence. It's certainly a playable game but considering how well the originals performed it's disheartening that this wasn't tested further. If you can look past the stuttering then it's great to revisit these games and be Batman once again.

Batman: Return To Arkham is a great HD remake for the PS4. Arkham Asylum and Arkum City are two of my favorite games, and seeing it in high-definition was wonderful. My only gripe is that they made Batman's face a bit too high-definition, and close-ups of his face make it look like Batman had a severe acne problem as a teen. Both of these games are some of the best, and the developer really makes it feel like you're playing the Dark Knight. The story is terrific, the voice acting is top-notch, and the gameplay is stellar. This is a must-have in any gamer's collection.

I loved it I haven’t played Batman Arkham City in a very long time since 2013 when I had a XBOX 360 I’ve been finishing the story like 8 times because, what I love about the game is defeating Mr.Freeze over and over again I’ve finished the story like 8 times but, I just feel like I want to keep doing it plus I mostly enjoy defeating Penguin too especially the way he screems when I break his hand😂😂😂😂😂

Batman return to Arkham is a great way to relieve the best memories you've had of the first 2 arkham games, and a great way to have the complete experience with all of the added free dlc that is included already in the risk. Graphics wise It's good in most parts but bad at some. However you won't really care to much about it, considering how much fun you have playing the game. Most of the graphics are good tho, It's just some character models that look iffy. Overall It's great fun, having to replay nostalgic memories from the past on the future.
