I bought this game Friday and it took most of an evening to download so I didn't get to play until late-night. The opening sequence put me to sleep and I was convinced this was just another sneak around-don't be seen-Thief-Splinter Cell wannabe. Tired of getting caught, I wen to bed.
Then I picked back up the next day, finished the opening mission and OH MY FREAKING GOD!!! The story is compelling as it puts you in a world that feels like a possibility for our future. They throw in just the right amount of humor and pop-culture references to have me actually laughing out loud. Some of the missions actually mirror some things I wish someone would do in real life (trolling an A-hole pharmaceutical CEO who wants to buy the only copy of a bands new album, anyone?)
As for gameplay, controls are GTA-ish for the most part though I do agree with others that the vehicles can be harder to manage if you're coming straight off the GTA series. Sandbox gameplay is a blast. You can power right through the main mission, knock out side missions, or just run around grabbing cash and research points to learn new skills. Speaking of the skills, some of them are just down-right mad scientist villainy. I think I spent a half-hour just making cars hit people once I learned to hack them. Commands and options for all of your hacks can seem overwhelming but screen tips galore are there to help. It only sucks when you have to use a skill quickly or die. You better remember what button sequence is going to save you.
Anyway, once I got into it (which took no time), I played on and off most of Saturday and about 11 hours straight on Sunday. All without doing a single online mission!! That's called bang for your buck people.
Bottom line: Get this game and say goodbye to your family!
