Skeptical, BUT...
After reading the stinky and rotten smell reviews, I was very skeptical but I need a powder for a backpacking trip. I opened the package and it did indeed smell a bit fishy, but not overpowering at all. I mixed powder and water in a baggy, shook it very well AND LET IT RECONSTITUTE FOR 12-15 MINUTES. Make sure all of the lumps are worked out during this time. When I poured the mixture into the buttered pan, the appearance gave me no confidence this would be edible. HOWEVER, as it cooked, it firmed up very well and I was able to flip it one piece, just like making an omelette with regular eggs. I was shocked after flipping that it looked exactly like regular eggs - see picture. A little salt and pepper and then the moment of truth. Shock! It tasted pretty close to fresh eggs! The texture was a bit rubbery BUT I think that could have been fixed by whisking the eggs instead of shaking them in the ziplock bag. I used the bag method because that is how we will do it on the trail. I will not be eating these eggs at home, BUT they will certainly be a tasty treat at 12K feet and miles from real eggs.
