This is a great yoga mat to get started with. It is a good size and thick enough to provide some padding between you and the floor. I actually bought this because I wanted to cut a piece of it off to use as extra padding for my knees on top of my regular yoga mat. I didn't want to cut up anything fancy with patterns or pretty designs, and wanted I something economical. This fit the bill perfectly! If you've never tried yoga, this is an inexpensive option to give it a try. It's great for pilates and other exercises too. We will use the leftover part as something to add a little cushioning for our old dog when he jumps out of the vehicle to give him a softer landing.
