Q: How do I know if this LED light will fit my trailer hitch? A: The tow hitch mounted LED tail/brake light can fit any 2" standard size trailer hitch receivers. This will NOT fit a 1-1.25" trail hitch receiver. Your truck or SUV must also come with a standard 4-pin trailer adapter for the LED brake light to power. If it does not, you will have to purchase a 7-pin to 4-pin adapter. |
Q: Why does the LED brake light not light up after I plugged in the adapter? A: For this LED tail/brake light to light up, the 4-pin adapter must have a +++/- configuration (+ for running, left and right turn signals; - for ground). In some rare cases, the stock vehicle's positive/negative are reversed (---/+). Since the LED assembly is polar sensitive, the reversed polarity will cause the LED to not light up. |
Q: Why does a message asking me about a trailer mode pop up on my dashboard computer after I installed the rear LED brake light? A: Newer trucks like the 2018 Ford F-150 can detect if the power socket under its tailgate is in use. Plugging in the 15-LED brake light will trigger this trailer turn lamp fault message which is completely normal. You may either disable trailer mode when the prompt comes up or ignore the message. |
Q: Why does the LED brake light fit the tow hitch but feels loose? A: The tow hitch cover is only secured by the tow hitch lock to make sure that it does not fall off, so the lock is not completely tight. There is already some foam in the inner side of the tow hitch cover, but if you feel that you would like the tow hitch cover to fit more snug, you can always add some foam to hold the tow hitch cover in place. |

Love everything about the unit! LED’s are super bright, and that means, when I hit my breaks, you see me! Day or night. The unit is super light, waterproofed, and super easy to install. Comes with three foam pieces that sandwich the unit and your trailer hitch. Depending on where the holes for the pin are you may need to remove on or two of the three. Had this same unit before for 5 years, until one day in the rain I back up and didn’t know a boulder was behind me. Still after breaking the lens and several rains, the darn thing worked. Cheapest and safest upgrade. And with a smoked lens, look really good as well.

Biggest glaring issue like many have already pointed out: absolutely no water resistance and barely any mitigation against the elements. The backside is fully exposed, leaving the circuit board to succumb to road debris and water ingress. As you can see in the photos, part of the board has started peeling away due to constant exposure. So what I did this third time around is apply a layer of liquid electrical tape to both the backside and part of the front side (not pictured) in hopes that it'll survive longer.
Surprisingly, there's a small dab of clear epoxy placed over the small chip on the board. Maybe instead of supplying the useless plastic hitch pin, that money could be allocated towards just epoxying the rest of the board instead? Also, in the product photos, they insist on installing the plug in at an angle. Why not just make the connector the right way instead of having to supply special instructions for something that should not require it? Like some people already suggested, I had to trim some plastic around the ground connector in order for it to fit without hassle.
To summarize:
The good:
- It's another light that can be put in your otherwise unused hitch receiver
- If you manage to get the smoked out version it actually looks great, I've not seen anything like it sold anywhere else
The meh:
- It's cheapish ($15)
- It works
- It's decently bright but don't expect miracles
- The light is not diffuse enough
- Obviously not DOT approved but whatever
The bad:
- If you don't try to "waterproof" it, you're going to replace this in a year or two
- The connector needs to be modified
- The supplied hitch pin is just more plastic waste, get an actual steel one for $2
