About this item
- Built-in super bright red lens LED brake light provides added safety when your hitch is not in use
- Comes with a hitch pin with lock and foam lining to ensure a snug fit
- Unlike current 9-LED brake light w/ bright mode only, our 15-LED has brake AND running tail light; will not blink with turn signals
- Installation Tip: when you plug in this adapter, pay attention to the orientation. Push in the adapter from an angle starting from the pin in the red arrow (see picture 4 and also video). If you have difficulty install the adapter, you can always bend the pins slightly during the plug in process.

Tow Hitch Mounted Red Lens 15-LED Tail Brake Light for any Truck, SUV, RV, etc.
You love your truck. It's your daily driver whether you are hauling heavy cargo or just buying groceries. Maybe you're one of those guys or gals that love their truck so much they spend their time and hard earned money making their Ford, Chevy, or RAM pick up the best looking version of itself. You wash it weekly, you maintain it well. Hell, you've probably slapped on a few decals or bumper stickers on them. Or maybe you've upgraded your lights. One thing that's certain is that you utilize your truck to its fullest. Or do you?
How often do you use your tow hitch? How many times can you say you've hauled more cargo than your truck bed will allow you? Chances are it's not very often. Just when you think you've made use of every inch of your truck, your tow hitch is left alone in the back. Sure it's useful when you need it, but why not make use of it all the time? Enter the tow hitch mounted LED tail brake light.
Red lens LED Trailer Light
Powered by 15 LED diodes for super bright output
Special IC built in to ensure the tow hitch mounted LED tail/brake light doesn't flash when only your turn signals are on
While both your brake lights and turn signal lights are active, the hitch mount LED brake light will flash along with your turn signals to add another turning/merging blinker.
Frequently Asked Questions
|
|
|
|
|
|---|---|---|---|
|
Q: How do I know if this LED light will fit my trailer hitch? A: The tow hitch mounted LED tail/brake light can fit any 2" standard size trailer hitch receivers. This will NOT fit a 1-1.25" trail hitch receiver. Your truck or SUV must also come with a standard 4-pin trailer adapter for the LED brake light to power. If it does not, you will have to purchase a 7-pin to 4-pin adapter. |
Q: Why does the LED brake light not light up after I plugged in the adapter? A: For this LED tail/brake light to light up, the 4-pin adapter must have a +++/- configuration (+ for running, left and right turn signals; - for ground). In some rare cases, the stock vehicle's positive/negative are reversed (---/+). Since the LED assembly is polar sensitive, the reversed polarity will cause the LED to not light up. |
Q: Why does a message asking me about a trailer mode pop up on my dashboard computer after I installed the rear LED brake light? A: Newer trucks like the 2018 Ford F-150 can detect if the power socket under its tailgate is in use. Plugging in the 15-LED brake light will trigger this trailer turn lamp fault message which is completely normal. You may either disable trailer mode when the prompt comes up or ignore the message. |
Q: Why does the LED brake light fit the tow hitch but feels loose? A: The tow hitch cover is only secured by the tow hitch lock to make sure that it does not fall off, so the lock is not completely tight. There is already some foam in the inner side of the tow hitch cover, but if you feel that you would like the tow hitch cover to fit more snug, you can always add some foam to hold the tow hitch cover in place. |

The four pin connector has a closer spacing on the pins than my factory Dodge harness, it took several minutes of pushing and shoving (and some dielectric grease) to finally get it plugged up. Other wire connectors I have on adapters and extensions fit the truck just fine. It works, just isn't ideal and took more work than it should, As I will be removing and reinstalling this when I use the receiver hitch, I may splice on a different 4 pin connector.
All of the above being said, the light works as it is supposed to, running light and brake light, and is quite bright.
EDIT: Aug 26. Now i discover that the light flashes if either direction of the turn signal is activated AND you are standing on the brake. If the brake lights are not activated, the hitch light does NOT flash, but if the brake lights are on, and you operate a turn signal, then it starts flashing, but oddly, not in sync with the regular turn signal light. If you are merely stepping on the brakes, it does give you a good third brake light. I just now have hooked up the high center light in my LEER camper shell, so now I have four lights.
All kinda lame as designing circuitry that keeps the light on steady in this brake light on with signal on, situation is easy to fix.

The wire is more than long enough to reach a built-in wiring harness, if that's what is on your vehicle. The connector is 4-pole (3 male, 1 female), and works well with a 7-to-4 pole wiring adapter, if needed. (Note: other similar products may have a 1 male, 3 female connector, so check carefully. )
The LED lights are very bright with braking. A great feature is that, when braking with the turn signal on, it will also flash. (No flashing otherwise.)
This is It's a great eye-catching accessory, to warn the driver behind you... especially a tailgater!
Biggest glaring issue like many have already pointed out: absolutely no water resistance and barely any mitigation against the elements. The backside is fully exposed, leaving the circuit board to succumb to road debris and water ingress. As you can see in the photos, part of the board has started peeling away due to constant exposure. So what I did this third time around is apply a layer of liquid electrical tape to both the backside and part of the front side (not pictured) in hopes that it'll survive longer.
Surprisingly, there's a small dab of clear epoxy placed over the small chip on the board. Maybe instead of supplying the useless plastic hitch pin, that money could be allocated towards just epoxying the rest of the board instead? Also, in the product photos, they insist on installing the plug in at an angle. Why not just make the connector the right way instead of having to supply special instructions for something that should not require it? Like some people already suggested, I had to trim some plastic around the ground connector in order for it to fit without hassle.
To summarize:
The good:
- It's another light that can be put in your otherwise unused hitch receiver
- If you manage to get the smoked out version it actually looks great, I've not seen anything like it sold anywhere else
The meh:
- It's cheapish ($15)
- It works
- It's decently bright but don't expect miracles
- The light is not diffuse enough
- Obviously not DOT approved but whatever
The bad:
- If you don't try to "waterproof" it, you're going to replace this in a year or two
- The connector needs to be modified
- The supplied hitch pin is just more plastic waste, get an actual steel one for $2
