The History of the CamelBak Hydration Reservoir
In 1988, bicycle enthusiast Michael Eidson was competing in the "Hotter'N Hell 100": a 100-mile road race, over four days in the grueling summer heat of Wichita Falls, Texas. Water is vital to surviving the race, but there are few places to refill, let alone time to stop. An emergency medical technician by trade, Eidson came up with a solution on the fly: he filled an IV bag with water, slipped it into a white tube sock (yes, an actual tube sock), and stuffed the whole contraption into the back of his bike jersey. He then threw the hose over his shoulder and clamped it shut with a clothespin. Hands-free hydration was born and CamelBak was created to pursue it.
Today, CamelBak is a household name. A lot has changed since our days of an IV bag in a tube sock, but our core values remain the same—it takes courage, conviction, and imagination to quench our thirst for better—from inventing the hydration category to becoming the world's leading maker of hydration solutions.
Crux Hydration
If there’s one thing we know best, it’s water. Crux delivers 25% more water per sip and an on/off lever that makes it easy to prevent leaks. An ergonomic handle and wide mouth opening allows for easy fill and ice addition. With the Quick Link exit port, the leak free tube connects and disconnects with auto shut-off so you can refill and load faster, or carry a spare full reservoir in your pack. Like all our gear, we put the Crux through exhaustive stress tests to make sure it won’t fail you on the trail. Crux reservoir comes in two shapes: traditional long, and the short and wide lumbar. Our Mil Spec Crux meets the USMC hydration system requirement for tensile strength, puncture resistance and burst resistance. Cleaning kits, replacement tubes and bite valves are sold separately to extended the life of your reservoir, while insulated tubes enhance performance in weather extremes.
