The seventies are in full swing and sexual experimentation is all the rage. Masters and Johnson should be celebrating, but their clinic is in legal trouble, their personal lives are in tatters and their relationship is on the rocks.
I like season 4 and the themes it reveals but don't like that Virginia's character morphed into needy, shrill voiced and off the top narcissistic. Libby' s character evolution makes the show this last season, the new Libby brightens up the season. Glad I have option to subscribe to Showtime!.
The show's premise was starting to wear thin and the series was not renewed for a fifth season. While I am a big fan of Lizzy Caplan's work as part of the Masters/Johnson duo, I always felt that English actor Michael Sheen was miscast as American physician and sex research pioneer, William Masters. There are only so many iterations of showing their sex research before it starts to feel gratuitous. So it is.
This was one of my favorite seasons. Masters finally decides to gain insight into his dysfunction, and Johnson struggles to keep him there. Libby decides to free herself from everyone else's expectations. My only complaint is how irritating Virginia's manipulative character has become. I hope there will be season 5!
Lots of interesting twists and turns this season thus far. I like what they've done with Libby Masters character; don't know if I like the husband & wife team they'be added to the office of Masters & Johnson or not. Mostly don't like. Hate that they've killed off Betty's female love interest in child birth. How devastating!! Like that they have made Virginia really "realize" her feelings for Bill and he's not just falling back into her old charming ways, however, I want them back together.
A high-water mark for drama. Well acted, exceptional writing. This builds on the momentum gained since "Party of Four" the previous year. There are at least 4 classic episodes in this season 4 alone: "The Pleasure Protocol," "Coats or Keys," "Outliers" and "Topeka." And then there is the season finale...
This season had more to offer than even Mad Men at peak season 5. Best season in this series, without question. Amazon video quality was quite good here. Highly recommended.
Love the show! It keeps getting better and better. I just started watching it this summer, binge watched to catch up to this season, and am chomping at the bit for every new episode. I love the chemistry between "Earl" and "Ginny", I love that Libby is finding her own identity, and I hope things work out for Betty and the baby.
