Level design is awesome, they did a great job remixing old stages and adding new ones. The feel is perfect, it builds on the feel of the old games without breaking it.
The look and sound is great too. The pixel look is never broken (with authentic-looking sprite rotation and everything) but it feels upgraded, animations have way more frames so things look super smooth. The sound design is awesome here too, they found just the right blend of modern sound without taking away from the Genesis feel. Super nerds will be able to tell that it's a step above the Genesis's synthesis, but it doesn't get away from the feel of old games. Game music has better stereo separation and overall seems to sparkle a bit more, it benefits more than you'd think to play on a nice sound system, and audio fans will really like that. A lot of care was put into making it "classic but better."
The statue and collectors' edition pieces aren't world class in terms of quality, but at this price I think it's fair. The 'pins' on the Genesis cartridge are a sticker that seems like it'd come off of mine fairly easily. The paintwork on the Sonic figure isn't the best, but it works. The switches on the Genesis part don't feel so good though, I probably won't flip them too much as I'm not sure how well they'll hold up. The whole thing is still a cool display though, and it's definitely worth it at $70.
I haven't played too far into it yet, but this is the first good Sonic game in at least 15 years. Anybody should get it.
