And the 8yo can actually prep it by himself because he just follows what the compartments say. So it’s his decision what to pack.

Overall it’s a fun little bento how for my 2 year old son to take with him to school and outings like the zoo. I like that it encourages me to give him a variety of foods, but at the same time the little compartments can also be limiting... I was disappointed that the plastic cover scratched up immediately and it had this funky freezer box smell to it. Makes me wonder if the cover had been previously used and they just replaced the tray??? I only hand wash the tray and cover based on other reviews I’ve read that claimed the dishwasher destroyed their $30 yumbox. My gripe with the tray portion is the way it’s constructed, it’s impossible to dry completely with dish towel. Must be air dried, and had to be turned halfway through drying because the water collects in the lip of the tray... hard to explain until you experience. I haven’t had any leaks with foods escaping the box, but I once put hummus in one compartment, and when my son came home from school that day, the hummus was all over the inside of the box and he had hardly touched his food. So, needless to say, I never gave him hummus again, or anything of that nature.
