I love the original Schmidt's. I love how it smells and I loved how it kept me dry and smelling fresh all day - HOWEVER my skin would get a rash after two days of using. I've tried a bunch of other natural deodorant with or without baking soda to attempt to find something that would be gentle on my sensitive skin and keep my pregnant BO away! After giving up and using my husband's Old Spice for now few days, I decided to do some research and found that Schmidt's had a sensitive formula! I have been using it for a few days and I am IMPRESSED. It smells fabulous. My skin is not irritated. I am moderately dry through out the day. In fact, it is a smoother consistency than the original - which I like better. I only have needed to apply once a day. It's great. Give up your money people. 😍

After trying every over the counter, aluminum free deodorant, I nearly gave up and went back to using the aluminum kind! I wanted a natural product but most did not work. Tom's particularly made me smell WORSE! Then I found out (the hard way) that I am allergic/sensitive to baking soda. I finally found Schmidt's sensitive formula. It works wonderfully and all of the scents I've tried are pleasing. Not too perfume-y but natural and good smelling.

If you have sensitive skin or just want to play it safe, order the sensitive formula. It is mild and will keep even a very sweaty woman dry and fresh smelling. If you don't tend to have sensitive skin, if you tend to need extra strength and especially if you are a man, try the "regular" version. It keeps you a bit dryer. If it makes your armpits itch or turn red, it is the baking soda in the regular version. Just switch to their sensitive formula and you will be very happy!

I have spent an inordinate amount of energy and time trying to find the best deodorant. TL;DR: This is it.

Criteria considered:
1) Odor protection
2) Ease of application
3) Safety of ingredients
4) Smell
5) Skin reaction
6) Wetness protection

- Odor Protection -
Regarding odor protection, Schmidt's is best in class. Many natural deodorants I have used, particularly the ones that are translucent, fail to keep the funk at bay. I suspect it is a function of pH. Where many natural formulas rely on baking soda, this sensitive skin formula contains Magnesium hydroxide, aka Milk of Magnesia. It has been my experience that even after vigorous exercise, my armpits smell fresh and lavender-y.

- Ease of application -
This formula goes on smoothly. Coconut oil has a low melting point, so upon contact with body heat, it melts into my skin smoothly. I like using a stick as opposed to a jar, a wet rock, or a spray.

- Safety of ingredients -
Perhaps this is the most important, really. If I didn't care about the chemicals I used on my body, I'd probably still be using the anti-perspirant I had been using since age 12. Using aluminum isn't worth it given the possible risks of alzheimers/cancer/etc. Anyway, all the ingredients are natural, commonly used, and generally recognized as being safe. I'm all for that.

- Smell -
I am all about the lavender. I have also smelled the geranium, which was quite nice as well. I look forward to trying the other natural scents. The lavender is fresh but subtle. It does not interfere with perfume when I wear it. Fresh, but not overpowering. Check, check!

- Skin reaction -
Using other natural deodorants, I have experienced: really angry rashes, a bizarre darkening of my armpits, and the emergence of painful cysts. These have all disappeared with Schmidt's Natural Sensitive Skin Formula. Again, I believe this is due to the magnesium hydroxide, as opposed to baking soda.

- Wetness Protection -
This has been the most surprising benefit of using a deodorant as opposed to an anti-perspirant... I have found that by allowing my sweat glands to work properly, I end up sweating less. To the extent that I do sweat, the arrowroot powder lessens the visibility thereof. I used to keep a stick of Dove for "special" occasions, where being sweat-free is at a premium. However, I am happy to report that lastnight I opted for Schmidt's to wear to a black-tie event.

- BONUS POINTS -
Schdmit's gets bonus points for not staining white shirts yellow. Apparently pit stains are really deodorant stains. Using this formula, I have noticed that my white shirts and blouses are easier to keep looking white.

- THE DOWNSIDE -
The only (minor) downside is that it is less ubiquitous and more expensive than a 'traditional' deodorant/ant-perspirant. Whole Foods typically has a few flavors of Schmidt's, but I have a bit of trouble finding the sensitive skin formula. That being said, ordering it via Amazon addresses that issue. As far as cost goes, while it costs more than Dove/whatever, it is on par with the natural brands. And very much worth the cost.

I researched products and read a lot of reviews before finally deciding to try out Schmidt's. I purchased the first product here on Amazon, and went with the Sensitive Skin Lavender Tips. One reason I chose this scent/type was that a lot of reviews scared me into thinking I would have major inflamed skin and stinky smell while my body rid itself of the toxins of aluminum and other Lady Speed Stick ingredients. There was zero skin irritation using the Lavender Tips, although I did notice that during the first two weeks or so there was a slight BO later in the day that wasn't lavender. However, I kept using it to give it at least a 30 day run. I did shower it off every night, and started using a charcoal make-up remover cloth after that (the wet type in the soft pack) to get me through the night as I am a warm and sometimes sweaty sleeper. After the first 3-4 weeks I noticed it was working better with no afternoon/evening failure. At the same time I was giving this a trial I got my daughter to also switch to Schmidt's although she went for the Charcoal Magnesium scent. She reported back that there was no skin irritation, and no BO at all even after workouts. It's been 4 months now for both of us, and we have tried several of the scents made by Schmidt's. The only one that didn't work for me (out of those scents I have tried) is the Coconut Pineapple. I didn't last all day, but I am assuming it may just be a body chemistry thing. I spent 10 days in a tropical location in December while using the Waves scent and was completely happy with odor control, and dryness. As others have mentioned it does take some getting used to texture wise. As a former "gel" user especially. The pro tip about placing the deodorant under your arm and holding it there to allow your body temperature to warm the product before swiping does work. I also had to stop myself from over applying the product. 3 to 4 swipes is enough. I noticed some small amounts of white residue on my darker shirts, but it laundered out. The price here on Amazon is very high. I have been able to find this product locally at numerous stores, for just a dollar more than my old deodorant, so look around! I always read reviews for anything I am looking to buy on Amazon, but I don't always take the time to write reviews myself. If I really like something new (or really hate it) then I make sure to leave my experience for the next buyer.
