Good for what it is

This is a good little unit, though the lack of back lighting makes it near impossible to read in most spots without a flashlight. The user manual is minimal at best - with super tiny font. If you're like me and just want to calculate cost of appliances, here are my quick cheat sheets:

1) Look up your electric bill and find your total cost per kwh.
2) Click the COST button until cost is displayed, then hold SET
3) Use the (+) to increase the number, SET to advance to the next one. Repeat until your cost per kwh is in there.

Plug it in and let it do it's thing. It'll display total cost since you plugged in. I let it go 24 hours to get a good reading. If you want to plug something new in, hold the (+) for 2-3 seconds and it will reset the data.

Funny, one of the buttons says MODEL rather than MODE. Must have been something in the Chinese-English translator that went wrong.

At any rate, I bought this meter as it was the only one in this price range that had a Power Factor reading. When calculating power use, you simply cannot get accurate information without considering the Power Factor, especially given that this specification is rarely included in most AC powered appliances. Fortunately, this meter has a Power Factor mode.

Modes are Voltage, Current (which between the two allows you to derive VA), Power (Watts), Power Factor, Frequency. You can also enter a cost-per-KW of operation, which might be useful for some, but for me - the fact that it displays Power Factor was enough to purchase it.

Other display information includes Time, Energy (KW), and CO2.

I also found that the Watts/VA/Power Factor readings to be pretty accurate, so all-in-all, this is a pretty decent meter for the price.

I gave it 4 stars rather than 5 simply because a backlight display would have been nice, and that the meter requires a battery rather than simply being powered by the AC power line.

Yea, I know... the meter would put a load on the AC line (but oh so insignificant), but that could be alleviated by sensing the output downstream of the meter power. I suppose though that to keep costs down, it is probably cheaper to battery power the meter than having to include a power supply.

The product works. Displays power usage, V, A Hz and cumulative cost after you set up your electricity cost.
One mayor minus comparing to P4460 - this meter does not display electricity cost per Hour, Day, Week, Month or Year.
You really want these functions and for some reason I could not find a review here that mentions that this meter is missing these functions.
Makes me wonder about most of these reviews.
If I know that before the purchase I would have not bought that meter.

Needs a backlight to be useful

It's cheap, and it does everything it says it does, but 4 stars means I like it, and I don't.

When you're using this meter, you're going to be using it at the edges of rooms. The lighting there is going to be poor. Plenty of shadows. Therefore, this meter would REALLY benefit from a backlit screen.

Why not just use a flashlight? That's inconvenient, and sometimes you'll wish you had a third hand. One hand for the meter, one for the plug you're plugging into it, and a 3rd for a flashlight. And maybe 4th & 5th hands for a notebook and pen.

And remember, you're going to be doing a LOT of plugging it in, taking measurements, and jotting them down. So the lack of a backlight is a critical issue.

This unit works great. I have been monitoring power usage for 2 months on a refrigerator that I bought in 1965 that still works great. People have been telling me I should get rid of that ole thing, as it is way to expensive to run now-a-days. So I purchased the Tacklife EM02 Meter to see just how expensive it was. Well it turns out it uses about 107 KWHs per month and cost 36 cents a day, or about $10.80 a month, which is $129.00 per year. Seems pretty reasonable cost to me.

Accurate Great Little Meter

Great little Meter that as I can tell measures the power draw accurately. I tested it with my computer as a base line and it was almost spot on to the calculator in regards to power that my PC should pull at 50% and 100% load (taking into account the efficiency of the AC>DC conversion of the power supply) and this little meter hit it within 3 watts.
