Wanda is a cute, smart and loyal dog who has adopted Maeve O'Dare. Only Wanda isn't really a dog; she's a human male named Chuck Lowry who was put under a spell by a witch. The only way he can get the spell removed is to have a witch remove it and Maeve is soon coming to understand that she has magick power and is a witch. Maeve is just opening a cafe as she settles in a new town; the mayor has been murdered and Maeve is suspected. On top of that her dog Wanda (Chuck) has been dognapped. Once every full moon Wanda is returned to his human form but cannot tell Maeve about the spell while human. I didn't care for Chuck who is obnoxious and overbearing but through the form of Wanda is a lovable dog and I really felt for Maeve when Wanda was dognapped. A great little series. I advise beginning with the first book in the story for a better understanding of the background.

Nice plot with some great red herrings thrown in before the final reveal. The main character is very likeable but with a slightly rose tinged view of the world. However am starting to think that she really isn't too bright as the dog disappears once a month and the man makes a nuisance of himself at the same time. A fun lightweight read that most paranormal cozy readers will love.

I enjoyed this book as much as this first in this series and would read the next purely to see if Wanda the dog ever gets returned to being a human being again and can Maeve break her spell? The detective side of the books in this series is very weak and predictable but it concentrates more on the witchcraft side which adds to the fun!
