Using this to hookup a few Raspberry Pi units to older 4:3 monitors that only have vga. Works fantastic right out of the box and no issue with audio using the jack on the adapter.

My only gripe is that the hdmi cable is attached to the unit and isnt removable, because i'd like to use it with some normal size hdmi -> mini/micro hdmi sometimes but that isn't a dealbreaker as it does what I bought it to do. For the price they're great and work really well.

I wondered at first about the power cord for this unit. My initial impression was that it enabled a higher resolution image, but I hoped it would solve a longstanding issue that my Mac experienced with some projectors - that the projected image did not hold, but flashed on and off when using the HDMI connection. (It never was a problem with the monitor to VGA connection, but then the projected image is narrowed down to a smaller screen size.) The HDMI problem was not the case on all projectors, but I teach at a university and the projectors are built into the rooms, so I have no information on what type of projector each room has. So, I prefer using the larger, clearer HDMI projection when I can - but that was not always possible.

I have found that this connector, when used with the power cable to a USB port on my laptop, enables a stable, full width HDMI projection through the VGA connection. I am grateful to have found this device, as it makes all the difference - and may be important to others who have found a similar difficulty.

Bought several and plan to buy more. I bought these so that when people use my projectors I'll be ready if their laptops only have hdmi output. All to often that happens now and some of my projectors don't support hdmi yet, or the run is very long and I only have long vga cables. So this adapter solves that problem. It's very handy and i keep one in all my projector cases now just so it's handy when I need it.

I got it to connect my new computer that has a good graphics card to my older monitor.
Just note that if you have a graphic card you need to use the HDMI port on this to connect. if you haven't , then connect it to the HDMI port in your motherboard.
