Fits on to the base of my mini drill press

Fits on to the base of my mini drill press
I like how it fit no to the base of my mini crafts drill press.Couldn't attach all four bolts to secure the device to the drill press base. But I secured two of them as shown in the photo. When I want the vise squared with the drill, to drill one whole after another in the same line by only moving the material, I could only secure the vice to the drill stand, with one bolt - as shown in the photo. I keep thinking it's going to slide during use.Changed from five stars to four stars.

I really like this little vise. it holds small parts nice and securely. All of the parts seem fully formed and in good shape. All of the plastic parts have a bit of flashing on them, but they all clean up pretty well with a utility knife. All of the screw threads are well formed, on both the soft jaws/posts and the main screw.

I haven't had it for a very long time, so I can't say how it will hold up in the very long term, but for the short while that I've had it, it seems to be doing pretty well. I don't have any machine table or other surface with T-slots, so I can't test out the bolt-holes, but a small pistol-grip clamp does a fine job at holding it in place at the edge of my desk. For anyone wondering, the screw heads are Phillips #2. Unfortunately, I've lost my thread tester, so I can't say what the thread size is.

All in all, this is a pretty good vise. I'm sure this will get a lot more use.

This clamp is as weak as possible AND still functional for small & very light duty tasks.

Poor machining and tolerances make it awkward to open/close, but it is usable. You will likely need to "help" the vice open/closed with a second hand since the jaw has too much play and can jam.

I expect this vise to have a short life expectancy, even for very light work, only because the material is soooo soft that the threads will wear easily simply removing and replacing the different holding posts. (I can not confirm this speculation yet).

Summary: I did not immediately find an alternative vice in the $20-30 range with better build quality. At the price point of this vice I believe it IS a good value and will serve my purposes. I rate this as good value, poor sturdiness, mediocre ease of use, because the jaw function isn't smooth. I rate the product as functional enough for super light duty work.

It works well for holding the pieces that I cut for my small projects
Reviewed in the United States on November 25, 2019
The Z-COLOR combination vise is designed to hold small workpieces. The painted jaws are not ground, i.e. there is some tolerance in holding parts. The movable jaw has a cast guide with about 2mm lateral play, 2mm axial play and 2mm torsion play. The drive spindle connects to the jaw with a screw (yes, a regular screw, untapered) that protrudes in a radial recess cut into the outer 6mm of the spindle. This design natively allows for a lot of slack and play.

The vise comes with two orange plastic bolt-on jaws, flat with a horizontal groove on one side, and a radius groove on the other side. The plastic jaws bolt on the top of the vise jaws - they do not cover the inside of the vise jaws. There are four holes in the plastic jaws, countersunk on one side, that allow to bolt the plastic jaws to the vice jaws. The threads in the vise jaws were cut very poorly, it was difficult to attach the screws that hold the plastic jaws - I ended up re-tapping those threads.

Said threaded holes can also hold up to four plastic cylinders to grip non-flat workpieces.

All plastic pieces had mold burrs that required some sanding to assure that workpieces can be held securely.

Overall, the vise is useful, but the fit, finish and function are surprisingly poor. And it looks and feels like you have to handle it with care to avoid breaking it when you use it - certainly a hobbyist tool...

This is a very inexpensive small vice ideal (for my needs) for the Dremel Workstation drill press. It is cheaply made, which should certainly come as no surprise to those who were cheap enough to actually buy it.

Having said that, it works great for holding things down while you drill small holes in them. I like the plastic jaws, and the "mandrels" or whatever the correct term is for the posts that hold circular objects. As cheap as it is, it's just basically a bolt and a couple of hunks of metal, with plastic jaws and mandrels. So I expect it to last a long time. I can print new plastic parts.

This little vise is heavier than I expected it to be. The metal seems much sturdier than I thought for the price. The slide is adjustable from underneath so you can tighten up any slack in the mechanism to make it hold more firmly. If the screw is binding, the adjustment can be loosened. The plastic jaw adapters work great to hold tight, without marring the work. It works great with my Dremel drilling press.
Good value for the price.

Cons: the plate that slides open/closed gets a bit stuck when not square to the rail, and there is no good mechanism to keep it square when opening/closing the gap.

The driving screw action is a bit rough, so you'll want to add a little grease to the main threaded screw.

There is no quick release/ close button to bypass the many turns to close a big gap. HOWEVER, I only saw lighter plastic bodies that had that button, and I desired a more weighty vice that was still small. So when you look at the pics, if it has threaded heat inserts to screw the posts to, it WILL be lighter weight.

PROS: Holds the board snug. Weighty enough I am not attaching to a heavier base yet. stays in place well when set on a silicone soldering matt.

Recommendations to manufacturer: Include set of longer bolts so the posts can be mounted when the clamp covers are installed. Until then, hit your local Ace hardware store so you get to install all the fun parts at one time.

Please engineer the sliding clamp portion to remain square during opening / closing adjustments.

The vice is well made, light yet sturdy & ideal for what I am using it for, to apply pressure on the delicate plastic scales ( handle grips ) on Victorinox pocket knives. I have bought a number of 2nd hand Victorinox pocket knives & have replaced the old & worn scales ( grips ) with new ones & after snapping the new scales into place on the knives by hand they need to be squeezed tight in a vice to ensure that they are on tight & that there is no gap between the plastic scale & the aluminum liner plates of the knife. It cant be done by hand and needs a vice & this one is ideal for such delicate work at home.
