While the show isn't perfect, there's a lot to be said of the criticism its been receiving. The Tom Clancy books have never been PG-14, and I respect Amazon's choice in tuning the show for a mature audience. Because honestly, its an re-imagining of an already complex, mature and technical series of books.

To address some criticisms:
1. People say that the show has too much nudity and bedroom scenes, but might I remind those who actually have read the books that those weren't short of bedroom scenes either, take Tom Clancy's "Threat Vector" for example. That book alone had 3+ bedroom scenes for various characters.
2. The complaints of the technical aspects of military firearms, aircraft, and protocol aren't unwarranted. I say this as an active duty military officer. But keep in mind that this show is far more accurate than any other of the action shows involving spies and thriller political fiction. Take Harrison Ford's "Clear and Present Danger" as exhibit A in why this show is unfairly held on a pedestal. The insubordination taken by Ryan would NEVER fly though.
3. This is the US Government and Military we're talking about here. Are you seriously going to believe that nobody swears in the real world? In the Navy I know people, myself included, who can barely get through a conversation without using a multi-swear insult. This isn't a flaw of the series, its an inconvenience for those who think too highly of themselves to listen to swear words.
4. That one review that talks about how Hollywood is obsessed with portraying the United States as evil clearly misses the point of the show. That is, we Americans get things done. A recurring theme in the show is that people need to break the rules to get the job done, and that's exactly how it works now, here, in the real world. The show focuses on Ryan's struggle with that mentality thought the show and I feel gives depth to his character.
5. Lastly, there's another review that says the show portrays the American military as stupid, and how "the boy scouts have better tactics." You gotta remember folks, that this is a political action thriller. This isn't "Black Hawk Down." Like I said previously, I feel once again this show isn't been viewed in the right lens. Are the tactics used in some of the scenes questionable and unrealistic? Yes, definitely. But does literally every other TV Show get this wrong too? Absolutely! Don't put this show on a pedestal.

As to some of the other "reviews" stating how this show always promotes how Islam is great and its cramming it down the throats of viewers, I feel that they're focusing on things to be offended about while they've never been exposed to before. Muslims speak Arabic, what did you expect? Translations are provided for you already.

I never read the books so I don't have a bias. This show was good enough that I binged watched them all and dawn is breaking. I am tired but it was worth it.
This was some compelling story telling. Life is complicated, humanity is complicated, sometimes there are no good choices and sometimes good deeds are punished. i felt like the story gave fair play to both sides of the Jihadi vs. the West conflict. The story doesn't try to justify what they do or what we do it just shows the motivations and the actions. There are several stories being told that all intertwine, but all are important and there didn't seem too be much, if any, filler scences.

Overall, it was fast paced, had heart and was just addictive.

Jack Ryan is a fantastic character and is RIPE for a tremendous series. This is a decent start, but there are some very obvious flaws. First off, I'm glad they didn't turn him into another Jason Bourne, he's still just an office worker with some military training who can defend himself when he has to. I love the international espionage spycraft movies as it is, so this really is in my wheelhouse. However, has a fan of Clancy's novels (and a huge fan of the Jack Ryan films) I have quite a few problems with what's being done with the character of Greer. Making him a converted Muslim makes absolutely no sense for that character and does very little for the story of this first season. Last of all, episode 3 of this season was absolutely terrible. The Ryan/Greer storyline got maybe 5 minutes of screen time, meanwhile we have an entire episode about some disgusting drone operator? Pointless and boring. I would recommend this series to people, but will tell them to 100% skip that episode. It simply felt like filler, which REALLY doesn't make sense with this being an 8 episode season!

I was very excited for a Jack Ryan series and Krasinski is perfect in the part, but if we are doing 8 episodes a season, let's keep it tight and focused. I would like to see them just update one of the many Jack Ryan novels to modern day, there is still plenty of tension with Russia, I feel like it would fit right in. Keep doing the show, I hope it only gets better from here

Whether you are a Clancy fan or not, this is a good first season. They don't really portray Jack Ryan in the series like Clancy does in his books, but in order to add more drama, action and suspense for television they would have to alter his character some... which they did. There are parts where Ryan is insubordinate (which in most real jobs might get you fired), but they tend to fly through the scripts on this and you soon forget it and watch the action. AND, there is a lot of action. There are some things I would change if I was a writer for the show, but all in all, it's a pretty good season to start with. I gave it a 5 because the action and suspense outweighed the negatives.
