I have been fortunate enough to have visited many great hotels. The Shelbourne is at the very top of my list. The history, elegance, and staff attention to detail is made abundantly clear in this series. What may not be evident, but is one its strongest points, is that EVERY guest is welcome and made to feel special. We were married at the Shelbourne. My wife is Irish and I'm from Boston (which is about the same thing). Some of our guests were very affluent, some were of blue collar background. They all were made to feel like royalty. This series moves fast, exposes the great "buzz" that is ever present, and is just fun to watch. After watching "The Shelbourne" we booked our nest trip. Denis, JD, Adrian and the rest seem like old friends. We can't wait to return.
Just a beautiful hotel and fascinating to watch how it is all done. I am battling very advanced metastasized cancer and I've made it a goal that if I beat this and get my health back, and my financial ship comes in, I want to stay here to celebrate. it is an excellent motivation.
This series reminds me of why I enjoy 'Hotel Babylon' so much. A hotel is a buzzing hive of activity, no matter how serene the ambience. 'Hotel Babylon' is entertaining because of the plot and characters. This series is good for how much it shows of the operation of a large refined hotel.
As in Hotel Babylon, the concierge is a key person. Denis seems to be the wizard here, helping people get what they want when they want it. I have seen this in my own travels. I once called the concierge of my hotel when i was lost. He gave me excellent directions for navigating the transportation system after he understood where I was standing. That was challenging.
I love the way a room is described in this hotel: like a package that has never been opened. So clean, so untouched by human occupancy, and yet you know it's been crawling with maids and maintenace workers to make it look that way!
So much fun watching this - and i love listening to the Irish language when it's spoken by various employees or visitors. So beautiful.
I’m a fan of shows like Downton Abbey and The Crown, and I was out of shows to binge. This delightful and engaging series was perfect for me. It’s very interesting to see what goes on behind the scenes at a five-star hotel, and the people who work there are warm and appealing. I hope this comes back for another season and, if it does, I will definitely watch more. Highly recommended.
I started watching this on a whim and wound up binging both seasons. It's light, fun, and interesting entertainment. I've always wondered how all those details come together in the great hotels. The beautiful floristry, world class fine food, coordinating so many people in and out every day - it's a real life jigsaw puzzle every day. This show is weirdly compelling.
