Product Description
Based on Margaret Atwood’s award-winning, best-selling novel, The Handmaid’s Tale is the story of life in the dystopia of Gilead, a totalitarian society in what was formerly the United States. Facing environmental disasters and a plunging birthrate, Gilead is ruled by a twisted fundamentalism in its militarized “return to traditional values.” As one of the few remaining fertile women, Offred (Elisabeth Moss) is a Handmaid in the Commander’s household, belonging to the caste of women forced into sexual servitude as a last desperate attempt to repopulate the world. In this terrifying society, Offred must navigate between Commanders, their cruel Wives, domestic Marthas, and her fellow Handmaids – where anyone could be a spy for Gilead – with one goal: to survive and find the daughter who was taken from her. Also featuring Yvonne Strahovski and Samira Wiley.

Once I got up to speed on the foundation and who was who or what..I watched more episodes like any binge..only a disc is my limit without a break.
NOW I FINISHED THIS VERY SHORT SEASON ONE..I don't get it..
There are teasers on the last episode (or 2 maybe).
I have my fears for all the women..some more than others.. But
the whole story is now without anything that has any signs of closure..
Good Bad or Ugly.
Its moronic to stop..after an audience awaits..and 4.5 stars, Katw Moss won the Emmy last year.. After all that was insane in the premise..and yet complacency in the USA majority..no matter how abusively our gov't gets better 250,000 or is it 500,000 grand a year - pension..
plus, free best-of- the- best insurance. Pain treatment that's now criminalized for our blown-apart soldiers, and all who live with untreatable disease, deformity, or the hundreds of millions with downhill health conditions, now inflamed by botched procedures..
We /are/The People that work for our comforts. But we dont get help for pain. The Feds are complicit with Pharmaceutials..to push drugs that advertise "Cancer..has ¿¿happened¬¬ ?? When did anyone FEEL ok to trade cancer to treat pain that already ruined any quality..of life?
The pain meds are not present in Overdose victims. But somehow the media and the Feds don't want to review Autopsies..even if non natural deaths demand it.
We are not far from being nudged to choose death..for relief from the worst pain on earth..what most Americans don't want to think about. but when its their kid, or sister, or parent..they become angry and are too late to speak out and speak up. Because those we love deeply..drain us like a flood water pipe going downhill into the ocean.
We just have our own priorities..which include bigger and better THINGS. because we feel we gave to keep up with others we feel we must blend in as well off. Our health is being played with. Our comfort in old age, or current inherited conditions..are not addressed for comfort when no doctor has any viable treatment.
OK.. I lost any interest. want proof? look up the chronic pain groups and check them out. Or..search your health problem..
yes young people do abuse Rx drugs. But that is rare. every pill prescribed and purchased is now reported to the Feds. Young people buy street drugs..recently renamed after-market after the last overdose. Even her source said he actually explained "all the Freebasing (??) was going ok..so he left her alone. And she was found by help..in her palace..
Who freebases Rx's.? an addict crushes and snorts for immediate, but fully shortened effects. So 10-20 pills freebases is fun..not reasonable pain treatment.
The truth is that pain patients can't feel any euphoria due to the complexity of the worst pain. it's never fully gone. Because prolonged use causes tolerance. Patients respect the allowance that allows minimal help. it saved lives every day.
Drug addicts can't ask for another monthly Rx the day after they party with a pal or the illegal drug dealer..on a full month's supply..in one night. The addicts never stop increasing intake, and never stop searching for bigger and much more quantity..but its unknown Chinese and Vietnamese fentanyl..made in straw huts with no safety standards or testing the strength of each garbage can batch.
Suicides win ..and our sister, dad, grandma..can't go on. they tryANYTHING prescribed. But when pain is not reduced and all bizarre cures and remedies and physicaltherapy fails
.pain now causes suicides not half as compassionate as what we arrange for our pets.
But..again..no one thinks: Anothing this bad would never happen in MY great nation..USA..
And other countries are copying this insanely cruel criminalization of pain patient that used to get pain relief from their doctors under Federal monitoring for 25+ years.
This current film series gruesomely depicts that we've descended to the kind of atavistic impulses that are always at the edge of a civilized society.
Now, 32 yrs later, the U.S., plus many other countries are closer to this dystopia than ever--and have moved there since the late 70s after the Iranian Revolution. Travel to these countries with "traditional" values for women and you will step right into the Handmaid's Tale. Go to a rural county in the U.S. right now and try to get ANY kind of health care, especially for women's reproductive issues (including good pre-natal care), and you will step right into the HT.
And so much of the focus, as has it been since Aristotle, since Augustine, in HT is on women's bodies. The internet brings us horrible, violent images of women via porn streaming 24/7 (as does many a mainstream Hollywood film with its blithely graphic depictions of brutality to women), and the empowering of right-wing movements. Members of Congress want to deny women the right to birth control products via not covering them via their insurances (while male ED drugs are easily obtained and covered by insurance), abortion providers in 50 states have been greatly reduced due to political and legal pressures (with illegal abortions and infanticide on a dramatic rise, along with maternal and infant mortality rates IN THE U.S. IN 2017!--and Congress will be next going after the morning-after pills. The. U.S. President, with his grabbing of female genitalia, international money schemes, is poised to wreak mass destruction via nuclear weapons (his "rain of fire and fury" in this kind of war. A big difference is we have 8 billion people on the planet and still need to figure how to feed, clothe, educate, and provide healthcare and a decent standard of living for a high percentage of them. And every week in the U.S. another mass shooting is reported.
The series updates and rounds out the characters; particularly giving a bit more info on the regime that takes over, struggling with its "perfect" vision of the U.S. Don't miss the scene with the trade delegations.
It's pretty tough to watch for most us--we will see Offred and the other women's paths in their own--from a somewhat freer world where women could hold jobs, enjoy themselves, make choices, and continue to work for a better tomorrow--to being devalued at every turn in the media--where it takes women years to come out against a Weinstein and where Betsy DeVos (she would be a perfect Aunt or wife, here) denies female college students the right to defending against assault.
