Supergirl - a true gem among DC TV shows

I love the CW's Supergirl. I REALLY love Season 3. Like the comics, the show does this remarkable thing - it makes outlandish sci-fi plots seem believable. The show also has lots of heart - truly relatable characters. Melissa Benoist's portrayal is quite remarkable. Benoist's Supergirl is my favorite live-action DC character, with a whole mess of other Supergirl-based characters also on my top-10 list.

This season is darker than the first two. I like the grittier, more determined, and paradoxically more shaken, Supergirl. We're seeing lots of character development (one of my favorite aspects of the show), and the action is outstanding. The season three villains are outstanding, too - quite formidable (and in the case of Morgan Edge, played nicely by Adrian Pasdar, laugh-out-loud entertaining). As others have said, I'd like to see more development of some of the secondary characters, too, but that's a very small quibble. The show IS called, "Supergirl" after all.

The show reflects contemporary issues, just as the comics do. Some detractors cite political or cultural bias as a reason that they do not like the show. I think they're unfair. It is okay with me that the show portrays bias, as long as it makes sense within context & fits the character's viewpoint. Every now and then the writers get preachy, or tackle a topic which makes no sense in Supergirl's universe, but I have only seen it once this season (in 3x03; I'm not going to spoil it here, but I think you'll know the scene when you see it). Cat Grant's cameo in Episode 3x01 is a perfect example - her comments showed left-leaning bias, but it's only what I'd expect for that character. I think those who wrote off the show due to relatively small and inconsequential scenes like that are missing out on a true gem.

When I was a kid, I read comic books every day. Every time I had a dime (that's how long ago it was) I would go to the delicatessen to buy the latest ones. I read them all but loved the Supers ( man, boy, girl even Krypto the Superdog). What made them stand out from all the others was their incorruptibility. They were simply good. They didn't need anything anyone else had to offer. I loved that about them. I wanted to be them.That is why I LOVE this program It strikes a great balance between the human and the horrible. The stunts are spectacular, the fights intense but what makes it stand on its own is the fully fleshed out supporting cast. The relationships are more than superficial. Supergirl isn't just Supergirl. She has a life with complex people and complicated interactions. I was floored by the Midvale episode. It was a thing of beauty. I hope they write more stories about the young Danvers sisters.

While the story is driving and the girl power is rising I can say that the only drawback in the show is when it tries to force the political views of the writers down the throats of the viewers. My family and I love watching all the DC related shows and are riveted each week by the new episodes and the building of this amazing character. I just wish it would show more of Supergirl's friends coming into their own as much as some of the other DC shows do. She has some amazing allies, and arc's on them would be awesome as well. Another must see for any fan of the Genre.

Great show but I
FEELS like season 1 and 2 were slightly better than this season also does anyone else think the special effects were better in season 1. This is the other half of the person writing this. I think the special effects are FINE and that my other half should stop whining about them. However, this show should stop saying the morals out loud instead of letting the implication be enough, which is sometimes too much on its own.

OH, AND THAT ONE PERSON IN THE COMMENT SECTION WAS A SEXIST, HOMOPHOBIC DOUCHEBAG.
