Ok so seriously they have lost the once upon a time flare. The characters aren’t lovable the storyline is all over the place and I am not pleased. It’s like they are trying to redo the once upon a time series with not lovable characters. Lucy is not henry and Ella is not Emma. Make it something new let us love these characters for them not trying to be the predecessors. IF this is going to be a new story then let it be a new story. Driscella is annoying and has a childish pouty attitude. The evil queen at least was interesting she had dimensions. Driscella is just a fake brat. I think these new characters have great potential but give us some light not all twisted dark nonsense. This season is like none of the characters have feeling or love. Ella gets on my nerves and if she is going to be the main character I got one word for that. OMG SMH. I mean finish with what you have and transport them back to storybroke because this new city life is just taking all the zest out of the show. Its suffocating. I think hook could be the main character for sure at least he knows how to act. The main characters should be belfry; rumple; hook; and Regina and please let everyone else be taken out of the limelight . I have been an avid fan of this show until this season. Please review what made the previous seasons so lovable and unable to resist and incorporate that into this show. New characters are awesome I loved all the new characters from the previous seasons and I couldn’t wait to see who the brought next. This season doesn’t have the charm that the older seasons had. They have yet to a have true love story just a bunch of twisted crap that makes you feel like blah. You could feel the love in the earlier seasons. Now it’s all fake and not at all believable. Please fix this.
This review is being written after the 7x10 episode "The Eighth Witch". This may seem negative, but I really do love the show.
Showrunners Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz keep saying that that had everything planned long ago, but this does not seem to be the case. It appears that after Jennifer Morrison (Emma Swan) left the show, they knew they were in trouble. Releasing Rebecca Mader (Zelena) with other cast members was a huge mistake. Bringing her back may breathe new life into the show.
I am not convinced that Mr.'s Kitsis and Horowitz had a solid idea on who they wanted to be the major antagonist for this season. The surprises that they introduced seem more poor planning than intriguing twists.
Late in Season 1, they decided the break the original curse, which they had not planned to do. They still did a good job of introducing other fairytales and characters. So far in this Seventh season they have explored the back-stories of the new characters, which is OK, but they are missing some of the fairytale aspect that made the first six seasons so enjoyable. "Waking" the orginal cast members is helping, but they really need to get the fantasy and magic back into the show. Perhaps they are running into a problem with budget constraints.
The first six seasons had the look and feel of a full feature theatrical-quality production. Watching the DVDs and the Amazon Video versions, I can forget that this is a television show and watch it like a movie.
I do love the show, but I seriously miss the Snow-Charming dynamic and the Dwarfs, especially Lee Arenberg (Grumpy / Leroy). What I would like to see is a major motion picture (or a few) that is not limited by the 42 minute time constraint of broadcast television. Star Trek went that direction. The JJ Abrams reset was hard to swallow at first, but looking at it as an "alternate Star Trek reality" helped me to like it (after a few viewings).
The first few episodes were rough and I got bored and had to watch them a little at a time. I kept watching, though. Now the episodes have gotten much better. I really enjoy them and can't wait for the next one.
I just wanted to offer a reminder to people who buy the season pass. It seems with every TV show, at least one (usually several) people leave scathing reviews, not about the show, but about their disappointment at not getting the entire season instantly. Please understand that when you purchase a season pass, you get the episodes as they are released. You can't get the entire season now because the entire season hasn't even been filmed yet. You'll get each episode a few hours after they air on TV. The TV pass is awesome! Once you buy it, the season is yours forever. You may watch the episodes as many times as you like. It's a good deal! But PLEASE understand what you're buying. It's not fair to punish a fantastic TV show because you failed to understand what you paid for.
Obviously, I can't review the season because it hasn't been released yet. I will say that I'm surprised by how excited I am! When I found out so much of the cast was leaving, I was not happy! I love Emma Swan and will miss her character immensely. That said, the show needed a big change and I trust the producers of Once Upon a Time to do the right thing. I'm SO excited that Princess Tiana will finally show up. She's one of my favorite characters EVER. I appreciated Disney for creating a beautiful, yet strong and determined woman. I know they'll do her justice on OUaT. I'm looking forward to the grown-up Henry and his daughter Lucy. And I heard they're going to have a new Rapunzel! I was so disappointed that her story began and ended in a single episode. I hope we see a lot of her in season 7.
