"Knightfall" goes deep into the clandestine world of the Knights Templar, a legendary brotherhood of warrior monks. The Knights were the most powerful and mysterious military order of the Middle Ages, entrusted with protecting Christianity's most prized relic - the Holy Grail - and harboring secrets capable of great destruction.
Starts slow, but I think it's going to be quite the ride before it's through. Do try to give a new show enough time to bloom before you write it off dear impatient viewers who can't give something 15 minutes before judging.
The acting is good, the production quality is high, but I know too much about this era of history to really be able to enjoy it because it diverges too far off from the historical record, which I actually think is more interesting and would make a better show.
The action was great, set pieces (real or/and cgi) was great, music good, and acting fair. Where this episode falls short on is character development and written dialogue. I know, they crammed a lot of story in and maybe the character development will come along in later episodes, but the dialogue between characters/actors in some scenes is just "bland" and basic (probably why some have said the acting is terrible in their reviews). I do recommend watching, but on the hopes this historical fictional drama yields us a greater watching experience henceforth. 3 1/2 stars.
1-12-2018: I have completed watching up to episode 6, and yes, the series does feel it has more depth in character and story. The French court sets and costume are very well done, and the acting and dialogue has become more engrossing and engaging to this viewer. 4 stars.
I think it is funny how it is either 5 stars or 1 stars. It's good the first episode is free, otherwise I might have been more upset. First off, be prepared for some "History" channel level of history. That means, one all characters interactions are basically in English, and therefore no attempt at accents or "Deus Vult!' to be seen. Additionally, helmets or period armors will be missing mostly expect all chain mail to be made of cloth, and arrows to be some rare super weapon.
The other thing to be aware of is this is NOT set in the Holy Land, but in FRANCE!! With it is going to be coming a long series of annoying of characters. Besides the very run of the mill, bad guy, good girl, breaking society role character, "avenging my family" character, that you will see in most tv shows, you will get some sub plot about how the grail is in France. Additionally the comments about the acting are fairly true, and if you actually do find a character that you like, more power to you.
The finally warning is going to be very more for if you care about PC culture or not. Wherever you will fall on this argument you'll probably not like the show. From it portraying the Templar s as some all for one police force, or lines like a Templar saying, "God doesn't care about us." or a Jewish merchant saying "May YOUR god protect you." you'll run into something that will likely annoy you. Another thing is to be prepared for female characters to really throw any decency out the window. From joining in a battle, to the QUEEN OF FRANCE having sex with a Templar, expect some odd choices in character development.
I have read everything about the Templars, including their Templar Rule Book. Historically, Philip went after the Templars' MONEY. that was the real motivation. The plot so far looks like they may imply that it was Landry's adulterous relationship with his queen that serves as the reason. If so, that isn't true. Philip needed money to pay for wars and crusades and the Templars had lots of it. They were the first international bankers. They lived simply but accrued massive wealth.Although the queen's affair with Landry makes for a steamier story line, the historical reason for their fall was Philip's greed for their vast wealth. But it is still a great program. Historically accurate in some respects. They did refer to the Muslims as Saracens in that era.
Just watch the first episode, looks very promising can’t wait to see the next episode, it has more of a King Arthur feel Instead of a Templar feel, it has a very good storyline so far and the action scenes are done very well.
reminds me of hbo's rome, are the good guys really good or the bad guys really bad, it is an entertaining look if not accurate look into the politics of the templars, good acting and great sets make it a solid watch.
Found a new show to watch that holds my interest. Have seen the first two episodes and overall I am rather pleased. I like seasons like Rome,Spartacus, Arn, etc so naturally this show peaks my interest. It doesn't follow history to the letter but I still find it a fun story to watch. If your into sword fighting films then certainly watch this show.
