Helps with Allergies
This is a very nice thermostat. It's one of the best looking I've see and has some great features. For example, my wife has allergies and the integrated air quality indicator will run the fan automatically whenever it needs improving. When using a HEPA filter this does indeed help. Other features are pretty typical for smart thermostat such as energy saving auto-away, smart scheduling, a simple phone app, and Alexa integration. I have a split system and have given my two thermostats simple names so I can say "Alexa, make it 75 degrees upstairs" or "Alexa make it cooler downstairs". It works as expected. There are some things that could be improved. When Microsoft dropped Cortana the thermostat lost voice capabilities. Which means I can no longer speak to it directly. This is too bad because I liked telling it to read the morning news or giving me the forecast. It also cannot show the forecast from the screen. It can only show the current weather. This is a big oversight and I cannot figure out why this has not been addressed with a simple update. Also the Alexa integration can be a little buggy. Sometimes I have to remove the GLAS skill from the Alexa app, and then reload it to re-establish Alexa communications. I'm not sure who owns this problem but at least I know how to fix it whenever it happens. Is it worth the money? I guess that depends. There are certainly smarter thermostats out there with more features for less money. But when I shopped a year ago GLAS was the only one that could proactively improve air quality by measuring VOCs. And to be honest I really liked the clear screen. For my money it was worth it and I would buy it again. Some advice...if you are replacing an existing thermostat GLAS comes with a plastic cover than can be used to cover the hole left behind. But I think it's better to take the time and drywall the hole instead. It looks nicer without the cover plate and the bezel can be painted to blend into the wall like I've shown in the picture.

I was looking at Glas long before it released to the market. My wife has some health conditions, one of which is only having one lung. We have lately been trying to create a healthier air environment for her at home, therefore, the added air quality monitoring is amazing!

Installation of this was a breeze. We went from an old pick your poison heat or cool thermostat where the RC and RH were jumped together to make it work. Thankfully the pull was a 5 wire with a common that was not used (the previous owner of the house actually did something resembling correct!). I took the jumper wire out since this unit controls both over the single wire. Cut power to the entire system so avoid shock to you or the product. Rip out old, put in new and power it all on!

The power savings portion is already saying we are saving some money! The house feels like it is the correct temp now where-as the old thermostat felt like it was off. We live in a very old home where there is no return upstairs and the upstairs gets very hot very quickly if you keep the downstairs comfortable. I was able to program the night time temp to be 5-8 degrees cooler which has been amazing so far!

Back to the air quality readings. I purchased a stand-alone air quality meter before this unit. I shipped it back within a week because it was complete junk! This, on the other hand, is a quality unit! We can see the ratings in our house and it also pulls the ratings for outside air from the internet so we know if my wife needs to have a day at home vs going out!

Cortana is an addition. I'm a Microsoft person by default so I am biased on this front. I also own an Invoke which is in the living room. This thermostat can do 95% of what the invoke does that I have tried so far. Since Cortana is updated on the back end instead of on the device, it should be somewhat future proofed. I read that you are able to add Alexa to the device. I haven't tried yet but may in the future.

The online interface is the biggest sore spot of this device. The app is slow... very slow. Hopefully, that is corrected in a future version. I didn't buy this device for remote functionality though so this is a side blip to me that isn't a big deal at all. I know some people live on this feature and it would be a very big deal though.

The looks of this thing are gorgeous. We live in a Victorian aged home with lathe and plaster walls. The old thermostat stuck out like a sore thumb. This one looks a little too modern for the house but the clear screen allows you to look past that. I used the white back plate for now since the old thermostat had a huge hole behind it (go previous owner, go!). When I eventually move this thermostat to the center of the house in the living room area, I plan to not use the backplate which should allow a more natural feeling.

In conclusion, I love this thing so far. I used bonus points from my card and a gift card on top of the price, that was already the best I could find, to buy this. The normal $320 price is definitely a bit high for this but not by much. I would wait for a sale if you plan on buying it.

Not only is this one of coolest looking devices on the planet, it works great. The Alexa integration was simple to add via "skills" and the voice commands are straight forward and simple. I have two of these for each AC unit (upstairs and down). The upstairs was straight forward because we had a C wire for continuous power. The downstairs unit required the C wire adapter, but was simple to install at the air handler control panel. The instruction manual is very detailed covering all possible AC unit configurations. Some negative reviews have stated things that simply are not true. They have decided to discontinue the manufacture of the model, but support and warranty will continue. In fact, I've had two updates pushed to my units in three days. As far as the app being slow, I'm not sure how fast it needs to open to merely change your temp. It has to contact JCI servers to load local weather...which may be a little sluggish because their servers may not be that robust. An "always on" mode would be nice, but reality is it would shorten the life of the OLED. If you don't want temperature inaccuracies, make sure you install the rubber seal on back to avoid possible drafts through the wall. The Alexa skill use to drop every day and you had to log back in. This may be due to JCI not allowing user accounts to remain logged in to their servers. As noted by another reviewer, JCI has resolved this issue and the Alexa skill works on demand and stays logged in now. Glas is the premiere smart thermostat on the market and makes other smart thermostats look antiquated. Maybe JCI will offer a new model in the future. Love it!
Update 2024: Glas has worked fine since I purchased them almost four years ago, however as many have stated, JC has discontinued the device and support. I was lucky and bought both mine directly from Duke Energy for $99. So, I have the coolest looking dumb thermostat on the planet now. Too bad they dropped this product.

Updated: I've now had this for 6 months.

I've been having constent and repeating issues with the thermostat showing a lower temp, this winter, and it then get stuck and run for what seems like ever...once I restart the device the temp which was showing say 62 now reads equal or greater to the setting it was trying to get to for hours.

Had a similar issue over thr summer with the thermostat getting hung up and not turning on the AC when it was actually hotter in the house then what it said. A reset always seeems to do the job.

I've called their support line and tried the things they have said, once I got the "well you know this thermostat has lots of software in it" but that doesnt matter when my $60 dumb thermostat never had any issue and didnt get hung up.

I cant even access this through my phone when I'm not home, so whats thr point of a Wi-Fi connection thermostat.

Still love the design but am greatly disapointed and will be going back to a Honeywell brand.

Original Post:
I wanted a Wi-Fi bases thermostat and this one is great.
I wasnt really looking for the adaptive aspect which this has, and seemed to do pretty decent. I'm happy that based on the settings you can override the adaptive nature as I prefer the classic set it control of standard thermostats.

The set up and installation was easy. I liked the confirmation of wiring it does which could show you if a wire wasnt recognized or installed fully.

It looks awesome...reminds me of thr Star Trek computers on Next Generation.

I dont like the air seal, thing ripped too easily when runming the wire set throught it, but I do like the concept.

The thing I am least happy with is actually the GLAS phone app. It takes over 1minute to connect and load on my cell phone even when I'm in the house on Wi-Fi.

Up to a month ago (Sept 2019) I would’ve hesitated to buy this. Recent updates cleared up bugs and ability to use this in Canada (Celsius/Farenheit) and Canadian Postal/Zip codes convinced me to give it try. 5 days now, I’m enjoying it. I’m using my iPhone/iPad to operate it I didn’t bother using the backing plate....much better aesthetics without it. I have two stage furnace and two stage AC
