After much research - including some actual testing, I settled on the Satechi Multi-port adaptor V2, for two main reasons: it's display port and its compactness/ portability. Though an HDMI display port is also present - and more common on most other adaptors, the MacBook Pro only sends out a 30Hz signal, whereas a "crisper" 60Hz signal is out of the display port. That said, the device well outfitted with memory card reader slots, ethernet port and type A USB 3.x ports. All in a beautifully constructed, aluminum package.
One important note. I encountered a problem (that was actually a fault with the external display) that made me contact Satechi customer support. Support was easy to reach and John was very willing to help. That counts!

Circuit Board Misaligned
The circuit board is misaligned to the case. Therefore, I can't plug in a Mini DP or HDMI plug to connect a monitor. The USB ports, which have more play, are a very difficult squeeze. I'm returning this for a refund.

Outside of those two issues, the adapter did work fine insofar as it provided a good quality dispaly signal via the mDP port and the USB ports worked without issues. On the whole, I wouldn't buy it agian.

I bought this adapter with the intent to use it as a mini dock on my desktop. I had two major issues with this adapter. First is that the mini-DP port opening was way too tight. I was able to connect my cable, but after a handful of disconnects, on the last attempt at disconnecting the cable separated at it's connector. Second, the network port has been flaky in my experience. I've had a couple of instances where my network was behaving oddly, and I found that disconnecting the network cable from this adapter immediately resolved the problem. I think this may have been particularly troublesome when I had power routed through the adapter and the computer was asleep, but the port needs to be well behaved anyway.Reviewed in the United States on October 20, 2019
