I don't understand all the negativity about this movie. It has an all A-list of actors. The four women are absolutely halarious & play so well off each other. The humor & one-liners are outrageously funny! I think the acting is awesome & great storyline about four longtime best friends in their 60's who belong to a book club striving to spice up their otherwise mundane "personal" lives by reading the book "Fifty Shades of Grey". I have watched this movie a ton of times & I STILL laugh hysterically each time! I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT! As you can guess, there is sex-related material & language throughout movie. Best suited for 50'ish & older to appreciate & relate to. "Book Club" is definitely a MUST SEE for those who want tons of good laughs, awesome acting & entertainment! Great way to spend an evening! Well worth your time! GO FOR IT!

I love that this story isn't about "youngsters"-- it's about 4 best friends in later life, who are still learning to love and live, and who help and support each other along. It's makes me believe it's never too late. :) and it made me laugh. And cry. A little.

I loved this movie! I could totally relate. All the cast members were perfectly chosen! Great actors! So much fun and makes you want to question where you are going in your life - take chances? make changes? make choices? The women actors look terrific for their ages. All of them! Candace Bergen was a riot! Diane Keaton was her typical funny self! Always loved Mary Steenburgen and what can't you say about Jane Fonda! Loved seeing Richard Drefuss again! I haven't seen him in a while. Don Johnson was very endearing in his portrayal of an old flame of Jane Fonda! Craig Nelson was a riot and a good sport dealing with his situation in the film. What can I say about Any Garcia! What can't I say. I just love him. The ideal man for me. So handsome and sexy! Still good looking at his age! Such a deep raspy voice that just got me going. A dream come true! HAHA! Don't miss this movie. It will put a smile on your face!

Ein wirklich wunderschöner witziger Film zum Thema älter werden und Sex und Beziehung im Alter. Für mich war klar, das ich diesen Film sehen möchte. Erstens weil ich ein großer Fan der Fifty Shades of Grey Romane bin (um die Bücher geht es aber eigentlich nur am Rande in dieser Geschichte) und zum Zweiten, weil mich diese fantastische Darstellerriege neugierig gemacht hat. Eine sehr schöne Geschichte über Liebe im reiferen Alter. Ich fand den Film schon im Kino super und hatte mir die DVD gleich vorbestellt. Unbedingt sehenswert.

"Thematik": vier Freundinnen Ü60 lesen 50 shades of grey und erleben lustige, amoureuse Abenteuer. Soweit der Plan.

Auf die unangenehmen Randerscheinungen wie: Dauerwerbung für ein Buch und die ekelige Dauersauferei will ich schon gar nicht näher eingehen.

Die headline ist: 4 Frauen Ü60. DIESE vier Frauen sind aber deutlichst Ü60! Jane Fonda ist Ü80!! Und stiefelt ständig als Pumuckl in ihren Nuttentretern durch den Film. Ganz schlimm peinlich. Ihr Lover, Don Johnson, ist gut 12 Jahre jünger und wie ich finde recht attraktiv. Da muss es doch, in der hochkarätigen Schauspielerriege, eine Frau geben die wirklich zu ihm paßt.

Als Jane Fonda des morgens wie ein verheulter, roter Schrubber in ihrem Bett liegt, von ihren Freundinnen aus selbigem gezerrt und in ein Kleid gestopft wird und ihr die meterhohen Pumps hinterhergereicht werden - war das derart gruselig. Oberpeinlich. (und ich will das gedanklich schon gar nicht vertiefen, daß sie ungeduscht, ohne Zähne putzen etc. hinter ihrem Loverboy her fährt...)

Die Szenen zwischen Mary Steenburgen und ihrem Mann.....Teenies in der Pubertät, oder auf welchem Niveau bewegen die beiden sich. Der Gipfel (und das im Wortsinn): als er mit seiner Erektion einherläuft....und in der Küche gegen den Schrank knallt. American Pie läßt grüßen....! Und, dann, als es endlich zwischen den beiden "knistert" verwechselt sie seine Erektion mit einem Handy. Ehem....

Candice Bergen find ich prima und die Kombi mit Richard Dreyfuss sehr stimmig. Aber ganz schwer nachvollziehbar, daß die beiden, doch etwas "schwereren" Menschen so wilden Sex auf der Autorückbank haben, daß beide aussehen als kämen sie soeben aus dem Windkanal und er ihr Bodyshape in der Hand hält. Nicht wirklich realistisch. Never.

So, nun zur absurdesten Paarung des Filmes: Diane Keaton und Andy Garcia. Ich erinnere mich an "was das Herz begeehrt" mit Diane Keaton und Jack Nicholson. Ich finde da hat das wunderbar gestimmt: beide "Best Ager", beide mit Macken und Schrullen, nicht mehr taufrisch, aber charismatisch und charmant. Für mich ein ganz toller Film.

Hier ist es so, daß Diane Keaton genau dasselbe nochmal spielt. Nur funktionniert es hier nicht. Das liegt zum einen an Andy Garcia, der 10 Jahre jünger ist und dem man eher eine jüngere, attraktive Blondine zutraut als dieses dürre, verhuschte Klappergestell im masculinen Outfit. Echt nicht!

Es ist lächerlich wie sie, im Pool, auf dieser Plastikmatratze sitzen, sie mit Brille und einem (Männer?-)Hut. Und er eigentlich doch ganz ansehnlich knackig und frisch. Irgendwie steigt bei dieser Kombi ein leicht inzestuöser Hauch auf...gruselig.

Aber endgültig auf dem Niveau von Police Academy ist der Film dann angelangt als die, völlig hysterischen, Töchter dort aufkreuzen und ihre Mutter aus dem Pool zerren. Als sie dann, wie ein alter!! Marabu im Frottemantel über die Terrasse stakst war bei mir der Ofen endgültig aus.

Und dieser Schwachsinn, daß sie zu ihren Töchtern ziehen will die sie behandeln als sei sie eine senile Greisin...finde ich ganz schrecklich entwürdigend.

Und ich glaube das ist auch das Fazit für mich für diesen Film: entwürdigend.

Ich bin wirklich entsetzt, daß diese grandiosen Schauspielerinnen, diese tollen Frauen, die wirklich in ihrem Leben etwas erreicht und auf die Beine gestellt haben sich für so einen unterirdischen Mist hergeben.

A surprisingly entertaining movie
It is a really entertaining romcom about older people and their relationships.
The story concentrates on four ladies, in their sixties who have been life long friends. They meet monthly for their book club where they talk about their book of the month, consume alcohol and generally have a giggle
The banter and one liners are great and because my wife and i are of the same generation as these four women, we have adopted one of their lines
to be our new motto namely; Do not stop living until you do actually stop living Great sentiments!
In my opinion, a few of the deleted scenes should have been left in, but it is still an enjoyable film with, unlike so many modern movies, no really bad language, filth nor gratuitous violence.
Well worth a watch.

This reminds me of an older version of Sex and the City but it’s dull and unexciting. Script could have been so much better. Shameless plugging of 50 Shades of Grey (Nine and a half weeks was way better). Maybe they used that because the co-star Dakota Johnson of 50 Shades of Grey's father Don Johnson was in this film. Jane Fonda was good in Monster-In-Law though she looked a lot younger than her 80 years in this one. Diane Keaton was dressed like Annie Hall. Few funny moments like Diane Keaton’s daughters thinking she was ancient and fragile and treating her as such. Richard Dreyfus was hilarious. Candice Bergen stole the show as a judge. I loved her cat who was lethargic when Candice was feeling down and perked up when she was feeling happy. Makes a change that nearly all the male co-stars were younger than the female co-stars. This is a movie like marmite, you either like or don’t. I didn’t like it.

This is one of the worst films I have ever seen. Four well known actresses should have known better than to take part in this low budget film. The script was dreadful and the acting , or lack of it, didn't help. The plot was non existent, the acting wooden and the locations were cheap to say the least. Was it meant to be a comedy, if so it failed?
It reminded me a a dated sit-com first episode where the characters were finding their way.
The only part I enjoyed was the Paul Simon song, Bryan Ferry song and the Dylan but they were just put in with no regard to plot. The budget obviously didn't allow for a sound track
I found it strange that in these times we can have such stereotypes in films of sex starved older women
