FAQ's

What is the recommended age range?

Our Junior Discovery Boxes contain more crafts than science and encourage play based learning for kids between the ages of 2 and 4.

Our Discovery Boxes encourage hands-on learning and experimentation in science and build confidence and creativity in kids between the ages of 5 to 10+.

While our boxes are designed with kids ages 2-10 in mind, we have subscribers as old as 14 and have even spied a number of adults having fun with our projects! We provide open-ended instructions that are intended as a jumping off point for kids to encourage their creativity and ensure that small kids can practice basic creativity skills while older kids can get more sophisticated with their projects.

What types of materials do you use, and where do they come from?

Some of our favorite supplies to include in our boxes are recycled felt, recycled paper, and recycled ribbon. We also love to include natural materials like wool, yarn, colored sand, clay, canvas, noodles, cruelty-free feathers, shells, jute twine, cotton fabrics, and wood. We source project materials and packaging supplies from reputable, sustainable companies that have a green standard.

How many children can use one box?

We provide a lot of materials for one child – many of our projects, but not all, can accommodate two children. Collaboration is a great part of any project, and we encourage children to work together as they explore each new art and science concept. You can also choose to order an additional subscription. This way, each child gets their own box in the mail! What kid doesn’t love getting mail?

Can I order a past box or other exclusive items on Amazon?

  • Yes! We offer past boxes for sale on Amazon.

So entertaining and educational!
Getting the little green box in the mail is SO exciting for my boys (5 and 3). The activities are very engaging and educational. They get to use their creative sides, as well as hone their math skills, AND get more exposure to science concepts (something that can fall by the wayside in early school settings). The packages are full of bright, textured materials that are perfect for little hands. They also give us the opportunity to have a fun dialogue as we worked. I recommend this subscription if you are looking to bring a little more art, science, math, and language into your kids' days.

I have had this subscription for about 2 years or more now. My grandson lives in another state that is too far for me to see on a regular basis. So I have this subscription going to his other Grandmother so they can enjoy the crafts together. They love them and he is always excited when he gets them in the mail as it is always fun to see their videos and talk about what they are doing and how fun it is...or silly or hard. I love this subscription. It really stimulates his thought process to look at something outside the box.

I thought would order this for when my 6-8 year old grandchildren come to visit. The first kit was reasonably priced and my grandkids loved the different science activities. I just received the 2nd box and it was almost double in price but contains a lot of "engineering-related activities". I'll test it with my grandkids and if they give it a thumbs up I may keep the subscription going for another month.

A few of the projects were cute & I though the price was good, but overall I was a bit disappointed with this. The special invisible ink pen broke immediately. Both of the fingerprinting activities just didn't work very well. I like the idea of this, but we won't continue this subscription.

We received the flight box and the candy box, both of which were absolutely wonderful. The candy box came with SIX experiments and the flight box came with FOUR. I felt like these were both a lot of fun and very informative, covering a wide range of theories and demonstrations. Unfortunately, they're just a bit advanced for my kid - she wants the eat the candy way more than she wants to understand osmosis. So I hope and pray these boxes will be available in two years, because I'm definitely interested in subscribing again.

I was disappointed with the junior box. I may try again when he's old enough for the regular box. Junior box didn't really seem to be well through through. The theme was 'on the farm' but there were no seeds, nothing about life cycles (should we tell kids where meat comes from--nothing here to guide that conversation). There were 1) stickers to put on a picture of a barn; 2) a red gift box that they called a barn and suggested you save some stickers for it too; 3) noses to glue to Popsicle sticks; 4) pieces of felt to practice lacing together and 5) felt carrots with holes and tops with numbers to match the number of holes to the Arabic numeral. There was also a bonus wooden frame that a kid could paint (the nicest part of the box). Finally, there was an insidious sticker chart, with a 'badge' to encourage the parent to not cancel the box. The included guide just suggested questions like why are farms important? It didn't seem to me there was any science in it, ad the quality felt disappointing. I think it is hard to do a box like this for pre-schoolers; it looks like the grade school box is of higher quality, so maybe we'll try that.
