Raspi 3141: Preparing for the Future, at any Age

Amazing new Raspberry Pi. I just love it it has onboard Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, mini HDMI 2 ports, a USB type-c to power the new unit. Also these Arm processors are clocking well above it's 1.6 gigahertz. My favorite part is that the onboard Ram is now sufficient enough to run a great deal more. This is basically a new smartphone but only $40 not over thousand as cell phones have now become. And just since I brought it up you can easily make your Raspberry Pi into a smartphone with LTE high speed internet, GPS, route accessibility and of course, mobile services. You will need a couple of new modules, which are extremely expensive considering what you're getting. You'll just need a SIM card module along with screen module which fits over your gpio, likely will need a control board as you will need more space, but of course all these variables make the build so much more fun. I use it for a variety of applications. For instance, I use one to monitor heat and humidity in different locations which I can see real-time data whenever I want, wherever I am via my cell phone or computer. I also use a Raspberry Pi as a printer server at my office. I have one used as a surveillance camera which is programmed to carry out various algorithms when certain sensors are triggered. Also you can program your Alexa Echo device also known as iot or Internet of Things. With precise accuracy and your own code or open source code from others that you can clearly audit, while in control, & know to feel safe that your voices are being recorded only when or if you want it. p.s.
I recommend this for all ages especially for younger kids. Raspberry Pi has put programming into a consumable way for children actually get the concept of computer programming that well satisfy their palette hopefully for years to come. As we get closer to an advanced AI we will need more and more software engineers. Also it is only 10 years we will be losing at least four million jobs and that's just mainly the transportation industry. It is a rewarding experience that is misunderstood by many but just programming isn't like you are doing one thing there are many different aspects indifferent art, yes, creativity, imagination. This is all what our industry has culminated and thrived upon... innovation and fueled the Industrial Revolution and made all of the superpowers what they today. Innovation and ingenuity seem to have now embedded themselves into technology.

It's finally worth watching YouTube on a Pi!

I got this to replace a 3B+ that was doing just fine except for YouTube and Facebook. Both of those sites are memory hogs, and the 3B+ just couldn't handle more than 1 tab of those at a time. (1 of each was about as iffy as 2 of either one) Text-and-image sites were perfectly fine - countless tabs of those were not a problem at all - only video didn't work so well.

I got the 8GB memory option as a bit of "future-proofing", and with several YT tabs open, it still barely registers on the RAM usage. It's rock-solid now.

And the SD card could just move over from the 3B+ where I set everything up, to the 4, and it ran perfectly. Everything was still installed and set up the way I had it, and it all "just worked".
(actually, I cloned the card and put the *clone* in the 4, just in case it did mess things up so I could go back to the 3B+ like nothing ever happened, but that wasn't necessary)

Good Basic Raspberry Pi 4 Kit

This is a basic starter kit. If you have a lot of bits and pieces lying around your house this kit will have everything else you need to get the Pi up and running, if you don't you will need to come up with your own memory card, power supply and HDMI cable. They provide an HDMI converter so any "standard" HDMI cable will work. For a memory card, I prefer 64GB myself, but anything 16G or bigger will work (You could use 8GB, but I wouldn't). The only key with larger cards is that they MUST be formatted as FAT16 or FAT32 or your PI cannot boot from them. Some SD card format programs will not do that, so be careful. Other than that you can download the software as mentioned in their ebook if you are new to the PI and following the directions you should be up and running in about 30 minutes total. This is a good no frills kit, if you are looking for a kit that provides everything you need or maybe want to media streaming center, there are kits available that may be a better choice for you.

Fastest Full Refund Ever

I received used RPI4 (there was residue on some of the components from glue of previously attached heatsink. It also came without any promised accessories in a rather crumpled box. It worked for 3-4 hours, then its memory died on me. I got those 8 blinks of the green LED. The amazon's bot fully refunded me, and I got the money onto my card in two days. Sorry to say, from now on I'm staying clear of Vilros store.

Got it to use for the family as a retro console. The 2 GB model is already overkill for this. Works well with iNNEXT SNES Retro controllers and Flirc case. I got the old revision but it works just fine with the Vilros power supply. Highly recommend either a passive case heatsink or active cooling, with good air flow.

One last thing, not sure if it's due to the micro HDMI adapter or my old TV but I had to use hdmi_safe=1 in config.txt

Compared to my older pi this thing is really fast. But I've also noticed it gets very hot. I'm using mine in a case that also acts as a heat sink so its fan-less; and when you touch the case its quite hot. But not so hot that you can't hold it. I've only been using it as a playground so far just tinkering with linux till I decide what project I want to use it for. I'm hoping for a retro-pie version that runs on 4 soon, till then I'll probably just enjoy using it as a web surfing desktop pc.

una chulada la placa, la verdad tenia rato queriendo comprar una y no me animaba, pero vaya sorpresa, la placa funciona perfectamente, el precio del vendedor esta muy competitivo y la calidad en acabados y usabilidad es inmejorable, yo le puse una carcasa con ventilador argon y el ventilador lo cambie por un noctua, la única desventaja es que la tapa no cierra del todo bien, pero creo que vale la pena para evitar sobre calentamiento, ya si aumenta bastante la temperatura cuando lo tienes corriendo full, de ahí en mas llevo 2 días probándolo y estoy fascinado y maravillado.

A pesar de que llego un poco aplastado el empaque todo funciona bien y nada roto o doblado.
Viene con adaptador micro USB a USB C que funciona pero no deja pasar toda la corriente que necesita la raspberry pi.
También incluye un adaptador micro HDMI a HDMI que funciona bien y disipadores para el CPU, RAM, USB y ETHERNET que mantiene la temperatura en 45ºC, con carga a 60ºC y con ayuda de un pequeño ventilador la temperatura se mantiene en 40ºC y con carga a 50ºC.

Es suficientemente rápido para utilizarlo como sistema de entretenimiento, mini consola de vídeo juegos, o como alternativa a una pc, con la posibilidad de crear proyectos electrónicos donde la capacidad de un micro controlador como Arduino se queda corto, por ejemplo controlar y manipular un robot o dron por medio de sensores o cámaras para reconocer objetos o rostros.

Comenzó como un proyecto de $35 USD, pero al día de hoy lo venden muy caro (más con la escasez de componentes), con ese mismo dinero pueden comprarse una laptop o PC de escritorio de segunda mano con especificaciones más o menos decentes, e instalarle Linux o utilizar el Windows que traiga de línea.
La desventaja de la raspberry es que presenta muchas fallas en la conexión wifi y Bluetooth, salida de sonido del Jack (pierde el sonido, se desconfigura fácilmente), si utilizas mucho Chrome, solo puedes instalar Chromium (pero Google ya no le da soporte) además que aplicaciones de video o música no funcionan, tales como Netflix o Spotify, por lo que en lugar de mejorar, empeora la situación en comparación con una laptop o PC, y como dije si la quieren por la experiencia de utilizar Linux, pues instalen ese Linux y obtienes lo mismo pero con la posibilidad de que si no es para ti, puedes volver a Windows. Yo ya no la volvería a comprar hasta que de verdad la vendieran en $35 USD como está anunciada en el sitio de raspberry organization.
