Samsung made a good tab better in the New 8" Tab A

- Reviewed in the United States on September 2, 2020I gave this tablet a 5-star rating because it works as advertised. I knew what kind of tablet I wanted and this certainly fits the bill. I wanted a simple tablet for surfing the internet; reading the news; keeping notes and my calendar. It is also good for social media video chatting on Google Duo or Facebook Messenger or Zoom Etc. The 8-inch screen is perfect for me. Much easier than using my cell phone. And easier to carry around than a larger tablet. This is not the tablet to do a lot of advanced or professional graphics. The battery life definitely is good; the touch screen works very well; and if you are Android phone user this will seem like an old friend. The speaker work OK but not really loud. Get a small Bluetooth speaker or earbuds if you want to listen to music. Make sure to get yourself a nice case to protect it and to provide you with a better grip. I suggest the Moko lightweight case which is under $10. The Amazon Fire HD tablet is nice as well but I wanted the full Android flexibity. So overall, this is a great entry level tablet for general use. The price was fantastic. And on the second day, it upgraded to Android 10. I recommend this tablet.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 28, 2020After dealing with a tablet that was slow and prone to having apps not work on it, this tablet was the complete opposite. It stays charged for a longer time, apps work as expected, and it is fast. There are some propriety apps you can
buy at their store but I haven't needed any of them.
A very good tablet at a reasonable price.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 28, 2020I see dozens of complaints of these being unbearably slow.
I must have got a good one. This tablet is quick!..
Got it and set it up. Disallowed or turned off all the trackback, customer improvement, error or other reporting and then went thru and deleted, disabled or Uninstalled each and every piece of bloatware and One drive or cloud based app or control on the tab. The biggest problem I've ever found is allowing Google, Gmail, Microsoft complete access. They all will automatically record your keystrokes, voice, location, web searches and browsing info non stop which ABSOLUTELY will slow you down to a crawl as it sends your complete life history to the cloud. Especially pictures and Facebook/Twitter/IG etc.
Once done removing these intrusive programs and apps you will have a noticeably fast tablet. You don't need a YouTube APP when you can login via your browser, same for Facebook and Netflix.. login via browser and ditch the apps and installed junk.
I bought these for Drones, and of course the moment I deleted and blocked here comes a system update.
Its now a speedy LED back-lit 32 GB Qualcomm quad-core 2.058 ghz speed processor with 5150mah Li-ion monster battery in it..
1920x1280 full HD record 8 in screen with Gorilla Glass 3. And more storage with a 512gb micro SD card.
Samsung has the best displays in middle of the road consumer devices hands down. And for 115 bucks you get one brand new! People are selling these on Craigslist and marketplace for 150?
The 8.0 Tab A is a marked nd noticeable improvement over the previous generation dual core 1.7 7 inch screens...its considerably brighter display and much better graphics and color reproduction are immediately apparent...and side by side the speed difference is night and day.
There is no legitimate reason to install an app for a web based provider (Amazon, Netflix, Facebook, etc) the ONLY reason they want to install that app is to be as intrusive as possible.
You can go to their web pages and login just as easily, have tons of free space and a speedy tablet.
The only gripe I would have is that 2 gb of ram is a bit weak for today's devices, even my phone has 6gb...
But 4gb of ram would be optimal. It would also probably almost double the price of this tablet.
For the $115 price tag, Android and Samsung support and updates for a few years- yep, this is a GREAT DEAL. Buy a no name one for less and you'll regret it...

- Reviewed in the United States on February 26, 2020Actually,my wife & I have the same two tablets. Both are the Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8" tablets. Also both tablets are good performers. Hers is silver, mine happens to be black. These Samsung tablets have bright, clear looking screens. The interface is laid out pretty good, simplicity comes to mind. Easy to use. 32 gb is the internal storage /w just enough room for more space. Let's see, one may even put a SD card in for additional external storage. ( Up to 128gb). These tablets are Energy Efficient rated. The battery on these tabs are great. The cameras on these are good. Not great though. We both use are tablets to replace our aging 2&1 laptops. And often to give our smartphones ,( a break). My tablet cost around $ 145.00 plus tax. Hers was a little bit more. However these Wi-Fi tablets are well worth the price. They perform really well.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 7, 2019This 8 inch tablet does everything I need to do then my previous one. This tablet is perfect if you are looking for something not too expensive and you are on a tight budget. It has good battery life, great screen resolution, able to run almost all games, great for a tablet that costs $149! But if you want to take some pictures with this tablet, it has a meh camera. It's not the best camera but it's usable and good.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 20, 2020I have owned 2 HD 8's, both of which you could say we're good......for a cheap tablet. Yet they both had trouble mounting the SD card at time, were very slow. Eventually I got fed up and bought a Samsung.
I love it. I use it mostly for bedtime reading / browsing, Audible books, and it works great. Perhaps not as fast as my iPad but a marked improvement over rthe HD8. Good screen, and incredibly easy set up as it syncs with my Galaxy S9 profile and auto loads the compatible apps.
I threw in an SD card which works flawlessly and I am good to go. Oh yes, the battery life is much better than the HD8 too.
Yes it costs twice as much since the HD8 which goes on sale constantly, but it works.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 2, 2020Great tablet! Bought for my 3 and 9 Yr old for traveling, homeschool, and fun games. They can watch their fav. YouTube channels too! We bought a good kids case and it has been dropped multiple times and even dropped out of our van and landed in a small Puddle, still works great after a few months of toddler handling!!!

Brenda BecerraReviewed in Mexico on October 10, 20205.0 out of 5 stars Bastante buena.

Juan CarlosReviewed in Mexico on September 29, 20205.0 out of 5 stars LO RECOMIENDO
LA TABLET ES DE ACUERDO A LA DESCRIPCION, FUNCIONA ADECUADAMENTE PARA LAS CLASES EN LINEA, AL SER PARA UN NIÑO DE PREESCOLAR, SOLO FUE NECESARIO ADQUIRUR UNA FUNDA Y MICA PROTECTORA, PERO EN SI FUNCIONA ADECUADAMENTE.
McBitersonReviewed in Canada on July 20, 20215.0 out of 5 stars Great device for whatever your needs.
Replacement for an older version. Does everything we need. Good battery life. Decent amount of memory (and you can add a card for more storage).
Ollie CeeReviewed in Canada on March 10, 20214.0 out of 5 stars Using this as a car dashboard
I've used this as a car dashboard. For the price its cheaper than OEM or custom dashboards + wiring harness installation. This took 5 minutes to setup and mount it my car's inner frame infront of steering column from the firewall. Took another 2 minutes to install my favorite dashboard app and configure it for bluetooth communication to my car's ECU and boom, a beauitful car dashboard.
The touch screen is decent, not the most responsive thing in the world but works most of the time. I'm only using this to read data from my ECU and display it as a tachometer, oil temp, fuel pressure, etc.
The OS itself is your typical Samsung Android OS so if you're familiar with it, you'll navigate easily. If you're coming from iOS for the first time you'll have to get used to the touch screen and get familiar with the whole Samsung and Google pieces.
Processing power is definitely far from something like an iPad Pro, Microsoft Surface or the flagship Samsung tablets. It is a very economical and low processing tablet. I wouldn't run more than 1 intensive app or a handful of background apps. It can become sluggish really fast especially during software or app updates (and even that takes a while).
I'd recommend installing Greenify to optimize your tablet. It is needed more than ever even if you're only using this sometimes or all the time.
