I wavered between 4 and 5 stars for this soundtrack, as I wouldn't say it's perfect, but it's really strong. I decided to err on the side of creativity. The Soloway siblings have given the world a thoughtful and thought-provoking musicale, making best use of their talented cast (I am reminded of Joss Whedon's Buffy, the Musical) with stand-out performances by Kathryn Hahn and Alexandra Billings (my favorite voice on this soundtrack).
Interlocking, moody melodies with tight harmonies deliver an emotional payload. Lyrics are clever, preserving the quirky, self-centered cluster I've come to know and love as the Pfefferman family.
Thank you to all who brought this to fruition--hopefully its core themes will continue to expand boundaries (yes, boundaries, Shelly!) by celebrating diversity. This album will be in my "Broadway" playlist rotation for years to come.
