I dithered for a long time before taking the plunge and buying this deckle-edged paper trimmer. I love it so much! I do a lot of cursive handwriting and calligraphy, and deckle-edged paper totally fits my style. The deckle-edge scissors aren't nearly as good, because the paper looks like it's been CUT with deckle-edge scissors. This trimmer makes it look like it's been expertly TORN, instead. You do have to get the knack of it, because it's not a simple, straight cut. You have to move the cutting arm slightly to the right, but then it cuts beautifully. If a little part of the paper doesn't get fully cut, you just tear it a little, and it blends right in.
This was a late night purchase when I was not fully in my right mind. At first I thought I’d just return it, but after trying it, I’m not sure how I lived without it. I do a lot of paper crafting so it will not sit and gather dust, but I’d think about all the things you would use it for before spending so much on this edged trimmer. Not sure what the detail stick things are for, do not seem related to the trimmer or paper in the least.
I am a huge fan of everything Tim Holtz except this one. Out of the box it appeared to have very little weight, not a good thing for a paper cutter.. although my desk is near a window and it was a nice bright sunny day, the markings were all but impossible to read. I use guillotine cutters on a daily basis and have not encountered this problem. Then I took one small sheet of 60lb art paper and made my first cut. The noise the thing made sounded louder than my 40 year old vintage dekle photo trimmer, which this was to replace but the worst was yet to come. It jammed about half way down the sheet and had to be removed. half of the side was cut and the other half sort of mangled. I tried other lighter weight paper but was unable to get an acceptable cut.I have to say that it is the wort buy I have ever made on Amazon. Even had it worked perfectly i noticed that the cuts were really not deep enough to be called a deckle cutter. I reurned and am using my old one until I can find a suiable replacement.
i don't remember the description saying it was a serrated blade edge, but once I opened it I realized it was. However, Amazon was good about returning it. I believe the company (Tim Holtz) is charging back a little percentage, which I don't think they should.
This product is very flimsy and poorly manufactured. The blades are dull and rips paper not cutting. I am so disappointed. For the money I paid I expected a much better product. A tear ruler would work better than this paper cutter. Yes it is very light weight Garbage
