"This inspirational romance novel ... had one of the biggest build-ups between the female and male character that I've ever read. ... This book is near perfection as it shows two stubborn minds falling in love instead of the typical lust-filled stories out there ...  an emotionally-resonant message of love ... focuses on the personalities and genuine feelings of the characters ... an alluring romance story in an exotic setting." - Literary Titan Editorial Review

Full Editorial Reviews

"Stoltenbreck's evocative debut follows a dynamic heroine, wrestling with the intrigues of love and life. Amanda is less than thrilled when her compulsory year-long residency at an outback hospital in the small town of Manjimup derails her five-year-plan in Perth with her charming boyfriend, Kevin. But things go from bad to worse after Amanda finds herself at loggerheads with the resident doctor and her new boss, Gareth, on her first day. As she tries to adjust to her less-than-satisfactory situation, a twist of fate throws her in the middle of a life-altering dilemma. Stoltenbreck creates tangible romance in this intricate, multilayered tale while teasing out her characters' motivations and desires. Amanda, struggling to balance her professional life and personal desires, makes for an endearing heroine. Gareth, with his integrity, charisma, and sincerity leaps off the pages. The intriguing storyline moves at a page-turning pace, and credibility never flags as Mandy's close bond with Kevin comes unraveling in the face of her new situation. This is a sweet romance done right." -- The Prairies Book Review

"Stoltenbreck's latest is a sweetly romantic tale of a woman going through personal and professional transition. The notion of moving from the bustling city of Perth to live in the small town of Manjimup and work in the outback hospital there for a full year is already wreaking havoc on new doctor Mandy's mind, but when she gets in a senseless scuffle with her boss, the resident doctor Gareth, Mandy knows her stay there will be full of misery. But she is unaware of the twist of fate awaiting her ahead. The narrative rolls at a crisp pace with brilliant descriptions and a good dose of chaste romance without turning fluffy. Stoltenbreck's writing is full of heart, and her characters credible: Mandy aptly fits the mold of a professional young woman trying to find a firm footing. The endearing chemistry between Mandy and Gareth imbues the narrative with a deliciously romantic undertone. The expert plotting and evocative worldbuilding keep the reader engaged throughout the story. It's a compelling world filled with emergency room intrigue, and this, combined with the burgeoning romance between Mandy and Gareth and Mandy's shifting perspective about life in a small town and her relationship with Kevin, will stoke readers' fervor for more of Stoltenbreck's work.  A sweet page-turning romance that makes for a perfect beach read." -- BookView Review

"A perfect combination of medical drama and romance, Braiding Roses is a charming novel about a doctor whose life plans are waylaid by a rural job posting in the Australian outback, an original and charming focal point for a romance. The book's delightful charisma and captivating development of both character and plot make this a tender, affecting read." -- Self-Publishing Review

From the Author

In writing Braiding Roses, I tried to create a delightful, flowing story of a flourishing love that can be read quickly for pure enjoyment. At the same time, I aimed for hidden depth in many places to reward a deeper read with several points intentionally ironic on a second read ("You don't want your boss at your wedding, do you?"). Many of the recurring symbolic motifs are readily apparent (roses, little birds, moonlight) but some are hopefully more subtle, such as the flavors of ice-creams, and the unpleasant taste of maraschino cherries dipped in a veneer of sweet chocolate. I hope you enjoy the book and I would love you to leave your thoughts as a review.

Braiding Roses is the debut novel for romance novelist Elise Stoltenbreck. Although writing contemporary fiction, the best inspiration comes from classic romances such as Pride and Prejudice, Doctor Zhivago, and A Room With A View. The story follows an intelligent headstrong heroine, as she works as a newly qualified doctor in an Australian outback hospital, and explores the deeper themes of true connections, false romance, and the contrasts in a doctor's life between fun and frivolity versus life-and-death decisions. Hope you enjoy!
