While the original "Sharknado" was one of SyFy's most patently ridiculous movies, it was largely played straight (or at least as straight as possible) as a disaster film of epic proportions. That it was an unexpected runaway cult hit surprised everyone, and quick to capitalize of the schlock value of the franchise, the sequel is played much more tongue in cheek. I probably don't even need to discuss the plot (there are sharks in tornadoes, this time in New York City,) and the acting is still painful, particularly from leading lady Tara Reid, but the film is a delight for all the deliciously wrong reasons.

The film opens strongly with Fin (Ian Ziering, looking as intense as ever) and April (Reid) on a plane to New York being flown by Captain Bob Wilson (Robert Hays, of "Airplane!" fame.) This starts the intense bout of cameos and pop culture references that make the film so fun. Just about everyone is in it: I bet you can't spot them all. My most obscure spot was Biz Markie as a deli owner, but there are many I missed (even after watching the credits!) Far and away the best part of the film was the cooperation extended from "The Today Show" and "The Weather Channel" (the weather graphics were especially entertaining.) My favorite cameos are the quarrelling duo from "The Today Show,” Matt Lauer and Al Roker, who give great insight into the Sharknado onslaught, and bring a bit of unexpected action to the set. Truly brilliant, and I am sure everyone involved had a blast making it.

The DVD comes with several extras, all of which are worth checking out, particularly the "Making of 'Sharknado 2'" short. For fans of cult cinema, bad movies, Al Roker, Judd Hirsch, Downtown Julie Brown, Billy Ray Cyrus, Jared "The Subway Guy" Fogle, Robert Hays, Robert Klein, Kelly Osbourne, Kelly Ripa (No...really!), circular saw limbs (don't ask), or fish-based weather phenomena in general, this movie really does have it all. Highly recommended for the cheese lover in you!

Compared to the first movie, this is much more polished, and it shows they understood what they had. Lots of A-list cameos and the super silliness of the entire theme. They pulled out all the stops and fairly well succeeded. A movie to enjoy, and absolutely not think about. And late in the movie, out comes the chainsaw. The scenes at the end where the citizens were killing the sharks as they fell from the sky spared nothing. Amazing what civilians have in the trunks of their cars! That everyone seemed to be having a great time making the movie really helped sell the movie.

After the terrible events last year in Los Angeles, when many people lost their lives heroically fighting off the rain of sharks from the storm of the millennia, it was time for Fin and April (his Ex) to get away from it all and fly home to New York City - a chance to relax visiting his sister and brother-in-law and more importantly, a chance to rekindle his failed relationship with April. Unfortunately a new bout of freakish weather was about to rain sharks on his vacation . . . .

Beginning Comment: The movie has a great opening that will get you in the mood for what is about to come. If you are familiar with the movie Airplane and Twilight Zone's: "Nightmare at 20,000 Feet", you'll recognize the subtle references.

Ending Comment: At the ending of the long scrolling credits, there is one more very brief final scene for Airplane fans.

Extras: (1) "The Making of ..." (10:40) Worth a look, but not detailed. (2) "Shark Chum: From the Cutting Floor" (08:32) Don't miss. Includes outtakes, alternate scenes, flubs, and one brief scene from the Canadian version. (3) "Gag Reel" (05:38) Don't miss. Lots of screaming going on here, along with grimaces, flubs, and green screen antics. (4) "Cameos: I Can't Believe They Got ..." (10:56). (5) "Director's Commentary With Ian Ziering & Tara Reid" Generally a gabfest while the movie plays inaudibly.

This one is a somewhat superior movie than the first (which I liked) though like the first this is full of scientifically muddled science. But who really
cares after all they are not watching this for serious reasons. Being a NYC resident I found it even more interesting watching tornadoes meander
around many of the places where I worked. Facts about tornadoes did not seem to matter to the producers: note that tornadoes over water are NOT
called "water spouts" but in fact called "tornadoes", and error even tornado chasers sometimes make. Tornadoes are generated out of super cell
thunder storms whilst water spouts are caused by temperature irregularities on water. They are usually harmless (I saw a guy fly a small airplane
through one) though there are exceptions. Still, I believe this movie is very watchable, laughable and enjoyable for most of us who like sci fi movies,
even though the story here is absurd. Sharks could not live in a tornado, they would suffocate! Be sure to watch the impossible ending; it is terrific!
I just watched SHARKNADO 3 and I can not but wait to write a review on that even more remarkably silly, hilarious and very enjoyable sequel!
I give this one FOUR STARS; could have been Five but for the missing scientific factors (intentional I think and OK). Still worth time to watch. And
apparently there is going to be a FOURTH SHARKNADO movie! Excellent, as Mr. Burns would say. And no Dr. Sweets! Enjoy and laugh a lot!!
I got my SHARKNADO DVDs from AMAZON, yes!

Ouh là là, ils reviennent et ils ne sont pas contents ! Le premier "Sharknado" nous avait bien pris par surprise et s'était révélé un film fou hors du commun particulièrement jouissif. Partant d'un postulat n'importe na wak, le film était un vrai produit déviant qui n'hésitait pas à mettre en scène les idées les plus déglinguos. Après le succès raz-de-marée (ha ha) du premier, une suite s'imposait. Mais était-ce bien raisonnable ? Eh bien disons largement oui. Car quelque part, ce second volet est encore plus réussi que le premier.

Certes, on perd ici le côté innocent de la découverte: les gars avaient trouvé un credo original et foutraque et s'étaient lancés dans la bataille en défricheurs, emportés dans leur élan par les possibilités qui s'offraient à eux. Ca s'amusait bien et le second degré était constamment présent. Or, si le sujet est ici accepté et ingéré, voire géré, c'est, d'une part, efficacement et, surtout, l'humour est encore totalement omniprésent. On a juste eu plus de temps et d'argent pour fomenter les scènes d'anthologie incroyables.

Changement de lieu, New York plutôt que Los Angeles cette fois-ci, et on en remet une couche sur les tornades de requins. Tout le monde semble bien se marrer (il y a d'ailleurs un paquet d'invités qui parleront surtout au public américain), les dialogues sont carabinés comme il faut et les clins d'œil abondent, comme dans la scène introductive assez dantesque qui évoque aussi bien "Y A-t-il Un Pilote Dans L'Avion ?" que le fameux épisode de "Twilight Zone" en avion avec William Shatner.

Surtout, on ne s'ennuie pas une seconde tellement le film aligne les séquences folles et marrantes avec gourmandise et délectation. Coup totalement réussi donc que cette suite puisqu'on n'y verse jamais dans la caricature et qu'on ne cherche pas à faire dans le nanar. En vérité, dans ce film, on ne vise que l'éclate constante, le délire visuel et scénaristique le plus complet possible. Bref, on pousse le bouchon jusqu'où on peut juste pour le fun, sans autre excuse. Bon, OK, les trucages numériques ne sont pas de toute beauté. Mais on s'en fout, on se marre tout du long et on sent bien que derrière (et devant) la caméra, aussi. C'est l'éclate et impossible d'y croire de toute façon, c'est la totale antithèse du réalisme. Tellement absurde qu'on ne peut qu'abonder dans le même sens. Et c'est bon. Quand la fiction dépasse la réalité... Et ça nous change...

BEIDE Teile von SHARKNADO total behämmerter Klamauk- zum Schiessen.
Deshalb reicht es auch aus, nur den zweiten Teil zu rezensieren.:-))
" ES PASSIERT SCHON WIEDER! " und " ICH SCHMEISSE EINE BOMBE IN DEN TORNADO..
in L. A. hat das auch geklappt!".....zeugen nunmal von interessanten bis
geradezu dämlichen Dialogen. Auch die Darsteller hätte man besser gleich
mit hineingeschmissen...na ja.
Aaaber- nichts desto Trotz sind die Actionszenen, - wenn auch teils schlecht
animiert- , der aufgewirbelten Haie, das Entern des Riesenrades,......
sowie das Zerschellen der berühmten H.O.L.L.Y.W.O.O.D- Lettern durchaus aktzeptabel.
Hat man zwar schon schärfer und ordentlicher gesehen, aber hier war halt THE ASYLUM
der Handwerker. Berühmt durch eher oberflächliche Handlungen und beschämenden Humor.

Bestes Beispiel hier der abgetrennte Kopf der Freiheitsstatue, der kilometerweit
durch die Stadt gefegt wird...und das ganz ohne ein Windchen. Denn bei den Menschen,
die sich vor der rollenden Schönheit in Sicherheit flüchten, sieht man keine STURMFRISUR.

Fazit:

Diese Haisturm- Saga ist ÜBERHAUPT NICHT durch den Wind bei mir.
Auf eine merkwürdig- bekloppte Art hat sie mich fasziniert.
Wahrscheinlich darum, weil sich sonst keiner traute, sowas hanebüchenes
abzudrehen.
Die Visual- Effects der herumwirbelnden Meeresbewohner sind zwar manchmal
mehr schlecht als recht, aber ich hatte dennoch gute Unterhaltung.
Und Spass. Och ja, auch bei Teil 1!
Die Tornados ansich haben mir imponiert, wenn auch manche Schnitte nicht
nachvollziehbar sind. Von pechschwarzem Himmel nebst hell dahinziehender
Wölkchen- vom tosenden Tornado zur plötzlich absoluten Windstille. Alles dabei.
Im Twister- Dilemma.
Und doch: Obwohl die SHARKNADO- Filmchen nur so strotzen von unwirklichen
Kulissen, unwirklicher Story- unwillkürlich wurden meine Lachmuskeln animiert.
