I bought this book to help me study for the GRE Biology test. I haven't taken any bio classes for about 4 years, so needless to say I was pretty rusty at first when it came to a lot of the material. Thankfully, the layout of this book is awesome--chapters start out with a general overview of the topic they describe and then in the following sections slowly break the same topic down into smaller, more intricate parts, continually repeating the general concepts as more in-depth details are revealed. For me, this organization combined with the numerous diagrams interspersed within the text made it easier for my brain to grasp the whole picture. My test is coming up in 5 days already, and thankfully I'm starting to feel more confident about it--wish me luck, here's to hoping I actually remember everything!!!

The book was new and in perfect condition as advertised, but because I got the free delivery it took about 1 week and 3 days. I guess I'm being picky because I needed the book immediately, but shipping was FREE so that made up for it. Only true complaint is there was no description on the book, they make an international version and I wasn't sure if that was the book I was getting. There needs to be a complete description of the book, with all the specifics.

I got this book for like 20 something bucks. It's in great condition. I needed the 9th edition for my biology class but its almost 200 bucks so I got this edition. About 90% the same. The new one has a few things added and a few things removed. Being able to save over a 100 bucks is worth it though. The site has pre tests, post tests, and flash cards for each chapter! Great to use along with the book!

Now, if you're looking for a little light reading.. this book isn't for you.
But this was my bible for the first two years of my Biology degree. Its a really great reference for papers and it goes into a lot of detail over a brood range of topics. There wasn't really ever a time writing a Scientific paper that i could not refer to this book. Plus, it's really good revision material and to support lectures. There were even occasional times where if i had walked away baffled from a lecture then i could refer to this book and it would all become clear. The text is broken up really nicely and has lots of diagrams and images incorporated throughout to make the information a lot more interesting and digestible.
And on a day where you have nothing else to do.. it's great for squats if you can't afford the weights. ;)
