Great introductory text.
Some of the chapters are a bit outdated, for example, they still talk about CD ROMs and basically the birthplace of internet cataloging of law references and sources.... so that was disappointing. This book was last updated in 2002 so.... yeah.

Overall this is a good thing to read PRIOR to starting a law degree.... my course recommended it in my 2nd year and although their are some good points inside.... ive essentially just skimmed it because my course has covered most of this stuff already and its a bit redundant.

Id say if you are reading this in your second or third or fourth year..... you should already know all of the info in here (or for the most part).

Buy it if you havent started your degree OR have just started it. Dont pay attention to the EU stuff in Chapter 2 and dont pay attention to the chapter on finding law sources/reading... its outdated.

Excellent introduction to English Legal System

This is an excellent introduction to the english legal system. It also happens to be the primary text for the University of London's LLB programs class on common law reasoning and institutions. It is highly readable and provides an excellent overview of the legal method and gets you to start thinking like a lawyer. I highly recommend it to any budding lawyer or anyone who is just curious about the law.

I am planning on studying law at university and this provided me with a insight into the world of law. Firstly, the book arrived exactly when expected, as I brought it second hand it was a little worn on the spine and a few light jottings but that was already detailed.

The book is split up into 11 sections which split up different steps of legal studies, from the first chapter of 'Understanding Law' to the last chapter of 'Exploiting Legal Reasoning'. For a beginner I would encourage you to think of a less arduous book, however, to anyone interested in law and has a basic understanding this provides a helping hand on the road to studying law at university. It covers EU Law and the ramifications of the European Legal framework on the British Legal system.

However, I would encourage people to note the edition the book is in, I received mine in the 6th edition, and this should tell you how quickly law can change.

Overall, it was a well worth investment. Though watch out for those edition stamps!
