Among the many peoples who inhabited Italy before the establishment of Roman hegemony, the most dominant were the Etruscans, the Greeks, and gradually, the Romans themselves. In all probability the Etruscans were natives of the Italian peninsula, certainly they were not members of the Indo-European language group. Whatever the origins, by the sixth century B.C.E. they had established a confederation of cities that stretched over most of northern and central Italy. Although their writing has never been completely deciphered, enough materials survive to indicate the nature of their culture. They had an alphabet based upon Greek, much skill in metalwork, great artistic talents, a flourishing trade with the East, and a religion based upon the worship of the gods in human form.
This is a fine product it arrived just as stated. The information is well present and easy to understand. I'm averaging an "A" in my World Civilization ! class. I attribute some of my grade to the books ease of understanding.
Wordy and difficult to navigate. Splits subjects up both chronologically, and by region, and by religion, which makes it unwieldy. Still, all the information is in there, but it's merely okay.
Received the book earlier than expected and is in perfect condition. So glad I decided to order my books online this semester. Saved a TON of money! Will be back next semester for sure :-)
The book was no where near the description given. There are pages torn edges curled I have to use a rubber-band to hold it together. So far all of the pages are there just not connected
